An Austrian Silver Wine-Cooler, Maker's Marks Schiffer, Probably for Franz Schiffer and Söhne, Vienna, Probably 1856, tapering cylindrical and on robustly cast and chased foliage and scroll feet, with cast branch-form handles, the interior gilt 25cm high, 37cm wide over handles, 54oz 3dwt, 1,685grThis lot has been imported from outside the United Kingdom under the Temporary Admission scheme. VAT will be charged at 5% on the hammer price and 20% on the buyer's premium. Marked near base with Austrian standard mark and maker's mark 'Schiffer'. There is some wear to the marks, particularly the standard mark with the bottom of the date only partly visible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There has been a small repair to the seam above one handle and some bruising in this area.
