1 DOUBLE MAGNUM BOTTLE CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD GRAND CRU CLASSE PAUILLAC 1959 (LEVEL AT VERY TOP SHOULDER - VTS), one owner since purchase “en primeur” in early 1960’s (through either Berry Brothers or The Wine Society) and stored in an ideal cellar. This ‘iconic’ DM has come from the Private Collection of the late philanthropist and Businessman Sir John Zochonis, one time Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester and Chairman and CEO of The Cussons Soaps empire. This Double Magnum, as a typical early 1960’s release when the presentations for large formats were hand-applied, is in excellent condition and has recently been taken to Bordeaux for appraisal. A full report from the Technical Director of Chateau Lafite is available. The label is intact and partially “cellar-soiled” and the lower part of the capsule also shows minor damage. The Ultimate 60th Anniversary item.

A SUITE OF LATE 19TH CENTURY DIAMOND CUT CRYSTAL comprising six large tumblers, 14.5cm high, fifteen wine glasses, 13cm high, fourteen sherry glasses, 11.5cm high, two decanters and fourteen dishes, all with the initials FAH which is for Ferdinand and Adele Heilborn, of Bradford, Yorkshire, who married in 1871 (51) Condition Report: tumbler with minimal damage to points. wine glasses - two with chips to foot rims. decanters - one has a chip to base rim, both have slight blooming to inside. dishes - one has a large chip to rim, the others have some small chips to edges. sherry glasses - five have chips to either top or base rim. Most pieces have some damage to the cut points on the crosshatching.

An early/mid-17th century Italian Maiolica syrup or wet drug jar with loop handle terminating in double scrolls, short spout and rectangular banner inscribed 'Ol. Volpinum' with an oval cartouche beneath depicting a mythical sea beast within leaf scrolls to the entire body, probably Venetian c1630-1640, height 22.75cm. Footnote: The banner translates as 'Oil of Foxes' and in Culpeper's Physical Directory of 1649 there is a wonderful preparation detail for this drug: 'Oyl of Foxes. Mefue take a fat fox of a middle age, wearied with hunting, and new killed, the skin and bowels be taken away and the bones broken, cut into many parts, boyl him in white wine and Conduit water of each fix pound, til almoft half be confumed, fcumming it diligently, then mix with it four pound of old fweet Oyl, common salt three ounce, the flowers of sage, thyme, of each a pound, let it boyl til almoft all the water be confumed, then ad water (wherein a handful of dill and thyme have been boyled) eight pound, boyl it again over a gentle fire to the comfumption of the water, then prefs out the oyl, and if any watery fubftance remain amongft it, feperate it with a funnel and keep the oyl for your ufe. A. It is exceeding good in pains of the joints, gouts, pains in the back and reins. (sic). Provenance: AstraZeneca Archive, being sold with all proceeds being donated to East Cheshire Hospice. Additional InformationOverall in remarkable condition, there is a 1cm x 4mm foot rim chip and another almost identical sized foot rim chip, light surface glazing with natural pitting to the glaze in parts. Light crazing to the interior, a tiny loss of tin glaze to the tip of the spout approx 1 x 3mm, but this is being ultra-critical, overall a great example.
