The crest of CARY-ELWES and of PONSONBY-FANE.

A Charles I silver wine cup or goblet, maker`s mark `WC`, a heart and two pellets below in a shaped shield, London 1647, with a plain slightly tapering bowl, on a plain baluster stem with a broad flattish conical foot, pricked with initials `IK`, 16.5cm (6 1/2in) high, 265g (8.5 oz). See Jackson (3rd edition), p.122 for a maker`s mark of `WC` with a heart below in a shaped shield recorded up until 1641. The mark on the present lot may be a later, unrecorded, mark of the same maker who specialised in cups. The lion passant on the bowl and under the foot are the same and seem unrecorded.
