Mark RobertsonIco(o)n reflects the force of Rasteau's terroir, all the while expressing finesse and elegance. It has its own small cellar, where the 7 best selected parcels available at Cave de Rasteau are used in its production: Grenache from the famous Saint Didier, Girards, Chaberte and Crapons localities, boasting typical yellow clay soils; Syrah from Encostes and Combe Julière, offering well-watered deep clays and loamy sand; and Mourvedre from Blovac Nord, comprising a first layer of dry gravel, followed by deeper marls. Afterwards, specific and rigorous production requirements are respected at once in the vineyard and in the cellar, including hand picking in crates, containing 10 to 12 kg at the most - nothing short of star treatment !

1850-1870 SherrySold By Christies in 1977 and has remained in the same ownership in a fine Hampshire cellar ever since Level - Just below the neck Bottled for Apsley HouseThis very rare bottle of Sherry was bottled at Apsley House, No.1 London between 1850-1870 for the Duke of Wellington. The Iron Duke, a venerated hero to the Spanish, he spent much of the early part of the 19th century fighting the French in Spain, which is perhaps where he gained his love of Sherry from. Sold by Christies in 1977. A tasting in 2019 from the same collection at Christies , another Sherry tasted as below The tasting note by Tim Triptree MW from this event reads Manzanilla sherry is typically drunk young, shortly after release, and is enjoyed for its fresh, floral, salty tang - ideally with Spanish ham in warm weather. This bottle was different: bottled at Apsley House, the London home of the Dukes of Wellington, in 1865. We decanted the wine and it poured straw-yellow into the carafe. At over 150 years of age, it looked almost like a young en rama Manzanilla. On tasting, the 1865 was well-balanced, chalky and lightly nutty with a characteristic smoky edge. Its colour and youthful gait made it hard to believe it was bottled when Abraham Lincoln was President of the United States.

An Italian maiolica istoriato dish, third-quarter 16th century, probably Urbino, painted with figures emblematic of Autumn and Winter in a mountainous river landscape; Autumn seated on a barrel, Cupid at his feet collecting wine in a cup; Winter warming his hands on a fire, the reverse with concentric ochre bands enclosing a central inscription AVTVNO / ·E· LIVERNO with a foliate branch and flourish, 27cm diameterOverall this dish is bright and fresh in appearance. There is some restored chipping to the rim, with overpainting to the rim – making it difficult to be certain of what it conceals. The restoration appears to be mostly confined to the ochre rim, but there is an area below the fire (at 3 o’clock) which is overpainted, suggesting that the chip in the location is larger (or a small piece may have been broken out and re-stuck). The chips to the foot rim are extremely small and minor. There are two small firing faults above Winter’s head – these are also extremely minor.
