Portrait of Hugh Barton, of Barton & Guestier, wine exporter, circa 1830, oil on canvas (stamped to verso Charles Roberson 51 Long Acre London), with canvas manufacturer's stock stamp to verso C R 1958, depicting a gentleman seated by a table with books wearing a burgundy velvet jacket and black neck tie, some surface marks and scuffs, extensive vertical tear along upper edge of canvas, and further large horizontal and vertical closed tear to right of the sitter's head, several patch repairs to verso, canvas size 126 x 103 cm (49 1/2 x 40 1/2 ins), fine period moulded gilt frame, with beaded decoration to inner section, central section with interlocking foliate volutes, and outer edge with stylised laurel motif (156 x 133 cm) QTY: (1)NOTE:According to information supplied by the owner this portrait is believed to be of Mr Hugh Barton, of Barton & Guestier, wine exporters. The company was created by Thomas Barton who moved from Ireland to France in 1725, settling in Bordeaux where he started a wine business exporting to Ireland and Holland. His grandson Hugh Barton joined the family business and in 1802 created Barton and Guestier in partnership with Frenchman Daniel Guestier. Barton and Guestier continue to operate today and is Bordeaux's oldest winehouse still in activity.

A large late Victorian silver mounted ice water ewer, London 1899 by Barnard Brothers, with removable ice compartments, hinged cover and angular handle, 30 cm high, a pair of weighted silver candlesticks, Continental 800 standard pot and cover, silver salts, modern wine bottle collar, vesta case, two silver wine coasters, a Russian silver and enamel caddy spoon and continental souvenir teaspoons.
A late 18th Century clear crystal rummer, circa 1810, the barrel bowl engraved with 'Duke Wellington and his Army' above a sword and a stylised bird verso, raised to a central knopped stem and conical foot, height 12cm, together with a similar smaller barrel wine glass engraved with 'Wellington Forever' above a central ball knopped stem, height 10cm. Group of hand-blown Venetian Murano Glass octagonal goblets. Each painted with floral and foliate motifs throughout with leaping animals. With gilt rims. The set includes: eight wine glasses, eight champagne glasses, and six dessert wine glasses.Height ranges from 5 3/4 in to 6 in; diameter ranges from 2 1/2 in to 3 3/4 in.Condition: None of the glasses have any chips, cracks, breaks, or major losses. No signs of restoration. Some of the gilding has rubbed off. There are natural inclusions/bubbles within the glass inherent to production. One of the smallest glasses has an unfinished painting of the dog; the white is present but the black outline is missing.
