Summers, London 1853; 1.65" (4.1 cms) long; 0.25 oz *Canteiro: the best wines & vintages of Madeira wines are treated with the "canteiro" method. This involves transferring the casks of the young fortified wine onto beams in the roof or lofts where they will be exposed to the sun's heat during a lengthy & therefore expensive maturing process. The special beam which supports the casks is called "canteiro".
