A wheel-thrown redware pottery lagynos (flagon) with a circular base, a wide lower body with a prominent, projecting midsection, a rounded shoulder which gradually tapers to a conical neck, a collared rim, and an applied strap handle joining neck to shoulder. this interesting pale orange terracotta wine jug features a round body, flared mouth and a single ridge on the neck. It displays varied geometric decoration painted in black. There are 5 regular bands that encircle the neck of the vessel, while other varied lines decorate the body. Short vertical irregular strokes are painted on the shoulder above two bands. The most interesting decoration is on the bulbous body, consisting of a chessboard zigzag and cross-hatched patterns executed in black pigment and typical of the Geometric style. The vessel has a small foot at the bottom. The jug is large in size and the capacity was over half a litre of wine. 900-800 BC. - 215mm,715gr - ca.900-800BC - Property of a British collector; acquired in the 1980s. - All items come with Free International postage, accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity .
