A GROUP OF THREE FACET STEMMED GLASSES, c. 1780, comprising a firing glass, the round funnel bowl engraved and polished with an 'oxo' band, supported on stem cut with hexagonal facet and substantial foot, 13.5cm high; an ale glass or champagne flute with tall panel cut bowl over a hexagonal cut facet stem and a substantial plain conical foot, 18.5cm high; and a small wine glass with fluted bowl and 'oxo' band over a diamond facet stem, 10.5cm high. A PLAIN GLASS TUMBLER, c .1830, engraved with a portrait bust of Lord Brougham (1778-1868), wigged as Lord Chancellor under an inscription "Brougham Reform Cordial", the reverse engraved "The True Spirit of Reform...Thurston, Wine and Spirit Merchant, Berwick Street, Soho". 13cmNote: Henry Brougham was a Scots born politician closely associated with the Reform movement of the first quarter of the 19th century. He is best-known for leading the great Reform Act of 1832 through the House of Lords in his role as Lord Chancellor. It is probable that this tumbler was made at Alloa Glassworks around 1830.
