DATED 1806 SEALED WINE CYLINDER. 8.25ins tall, dark olive green glass, applied collar lip. Graphite pontil, large body seal reads ‘COLLETT & FALKNER/ BATH/ 1806’. An extraordinarily large seal (very well struck) on a small dated cylinder. Collett and Falkner, wine and brandy merchants, 11 Horse Street, 1781 to 1810, became 9 Horse St about 1811-25. Company moved to Southgate Street around 1830 when they later became known as Falkner and Son. There was a big fire after which the street was renamed Southgate. Collett & Falkner also used a dark aqua two piece mould sealed spirit bottle & stone jars bearing the Horse Street address are listed. Exc/A1 - as good as they ever get, without a doubt the BEST sealed cylinder has ever handled! NR
