A Chinese wine cup decorated in iron red with dragons, Qianlong seal mark and of the period (1736-1795) of typical form with deep sides a short foot and a very faintly everted rim, finely decorated in iron red with two five claw dragons in pursuit of the flaming pearl amidst flames with clashing waves below, two concentric circles in underglaze blu above and below, the base with a well drawn six character seal Qianlong seal mark, the paste of the foot and the quality of the decoration indicating a circa date of the period. Iron red dragon decorated wine cups were produced at various times during the nineteenth century. Qianlong examples seem to be more unusual but compare Sotheby s New York 23 March 2010 Lot 20 and Sotheby s New York 15 September 2010 Lot 249.
