nebst Bemerkung 1ten Der Numeren ihrer Wohnhäuser der Ordnung nach. 2tens. Deren Namen nach Alphabetischer Ordnung. 3tens/ Eines Gewerb- und Handlungs-Register gemäs erhaltener Angabe. 4tens. Register deren Strassen. 5tens. Einem Genauen ganz neu von Herrn Cardon in Brüssel verfertigtem Grundris dieser Stadt. Cologne, printed by Thiriart Und Compagnie für Metternichischen Buch-Handlung, 1797, (8),414 p., w. fold. engr. plan, rebacked w. use of the orig. ribbed and gilt halfleather and free endpapers, modern boards and pastedowns. Some minor defects/ imperfections, but a good copy. Very rare and early address book of Cologne, listing 7404 citizens in order of the streets, with their professions. The work indexes the population of the city in 3 different ways, on address, name and profession. Probably the second or third edition (the first one appeared in 1795 and did not mention the professions of the citizens). Worldcat mentions a single copy in the The Staatsbibliothek in Berlin, by Thiriart und Compagnie, supposedly printed in 1747 but this date is almost certainly erroneous. Also listed on Worldcat are copies of an edition in magazine-form (1794-1798). Otherwise just a few copies (or one copy listed by var. sellers, without the plan) traced. Our edition contains the first mention of the later Eau de Cologne-maker (Kölnisch Wasser) Wilhelm Mülhens, under number 4711 in the Klöckergasse (Glockengasse). It also mentions other producers of Eau de Cologne (incl. Joh. Anton Farina), sculptors of the Imhoff family, printers and booksellers, printmakers, coffee producers- and houses, tobacco-dealers, wine-dealers, makers of musical instriments, jewellers, watchmakers, weapon-makers, etc. etc.
Classé pour chaque commune de l'arrondissement de Beaune suivant le mérite des produits. Par les soins du comité d'agriculture de l'arrondissement de Beaune. Et pour l'arrondissement de Dijon, par une société de viticulteurs. Col. lithogr. map after M.I. Bonnamas, on 3 attached sheets, together measuring 45.5 x 285 cm, Beaune, Batault-Morot, n.d. (ed. between 1861 and 1895), kept rolled in orig. wooden box w. printed label of Charles Bernard dated in pen "14 Setbre. 1895" and w. address in pen "Monsieur Charles Durieux Negt. (?) en vins à Marche (Belgique)" and annotation "carte des vignobles", the box (w. remnants of the orig wax seal and paper labels) measures 47.5 x 4.3 x 4.5 cm. The map rolled, and w. a few sm. tears and pinholes in blank margins, otherwise fine. Very rare separate edition of the map also published in the booklet Plan statistique des vignobles produisant les grands vins de Bourgogne (...), first published in Beaune in 1861. Not coincidentally, the booklet was published just before the great London world exhibition of 1862. The map is divided in areas w. different colours indicating the vineyards of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd classes. The mentioned areas are Santenay, Chassagne, Puligny, Meursault, Auxey, Monthélie, Volnay, Pommard, Beaune, Savigny, Pernand, Aloxe, Serrigny, Prissey, Premeaux, Nuits, Vosne, Flagey-les-Gilly and Vougeot. The very nice (and extremely rare) original wooden box was used to send this copy to wine dealer Charles Durieux in Marche, Belgium, in 1895. The winery Charles Bernard that sent the map, still exists.
