Jonathan Armigel Wade (b. 1960) mixed media on board - Gifts of Bread and Wine, 83cm x 60cm, signed, titled and dated 1991 verso, framedThe board is slightly warped, however if it were properly fixed in a frame this wouldn't be as noticeable. There is some surface dirt and what appears to be bird muck on the left side. It seems to be painted on ply board so there are some slight cracks, although the paint surface is stable. The colours are good and strong.

Two 18th century Dutch freeblown onion wine bottles, two 18th century English mallet wine bottles, a small 17th century wine bottle and others (9)The smallest bottle has losses and significant reconstruction, a few chips to string rims (see photos) one of the squat bottles has a small star crack to side wall, otherwise a few minor chips and scratches but otherwise in good condition.

Large, heavy Victorian silver wine ewer of baluster form, with chased and engraved bacchanalian scenes of cavorting putti, with large goat's head mounted handle, on a compressed pedestal base (Birmingham 1854) Elkington & Co. Some damage. All at approximately 54ozs. 30.5cm overall height.General overall condition is quite poor, ewer has been badly damaged and dented at some time, some areas of the decoration are distorted and surface definition is poor, possibly been in a fire. Whole item appears to be part way through a major repair. Hallmarks on the base are clear.

Through this movement, individuals of means gained exposure to Europe's cultural legacy of Classical antiquity. Architects, artisans and designers of that era naturally applied these design influences to their contemporary visions.Silversmiths like Terrey extrapolated on the ideas of Giovanni Piranesi, John Flaxman, William Theed and others to create their own unique pieces. Similar sets of coolers were produced by Paul Storr, Benjamin Smith II, Rundell, Bridge and Rundell. The design has been attributed to William Theed (1764-1817), a painter and sculptor, he was also head of the design department at Rundell's until his death in 1817.An appropriate subject to use as relief decoration on this pair of wine coolers, which themselves are styled in the antique campana form, derived directly from the celebrated Medici Vase, a 1st-century AD, neo-Attic marble, now in the Louvre, Paris, an illustration of which was published by the Venetian engraver G.B. Piranesi (1720-1778). The Triumph of Bacchus frieze is derived from a late 2nd-century Roman sarcophagus in the Vatican Museum, engravings of which were published by E. Q. Visconti in Museo Pio-Clementio, between 1782 and 1802 (see D. The present lot is a stunning example with rich wine red mihrab field and ivory vase motif with an arabesque of dark blue stem tendrils flanked by tan trees with blue and ivory blossoms. The upper corners in the present lot are particularly effective with their boisterous arabesques of Rhumi tendrils in dark and light blue. Equally impressive is the midnight blue main border with the Rhumi ended vines, very much in the Safavid style, knotted in reddish warm brown giving a sense of harmonious floral and vegetal ornaments.
