A charming 20th Century 1970's retro vintage brass and marble wine / occasional side lamp table. The table of brass construction set with a circular marble insert decorated with a bowl of strawberries and butterflies. Brass hoop handles to the gypsy style table and being raised on a crossed tripod supports. Measures 52cm x 33cm.
Spearhead - An original vintage 20th Century white metal single wine bottle / champagne bottle cooler / ice bucket of sputnik atomic influence. Top section removes allowing the interior to be filled with ice surrounding the central wine bottle holder. All raised on three bun feet. Makers stamp to the underside. Measures: 23cm.
Wine.- [Ames (Richard)] The Bacchanalian Sessions; or The Conten' tion of Liquors: With a Farewel to Wine, first edition, title with small hole and loss to fore-margin affecting title semicolon, first 2 ff. stained at head, a few ff. closely shaved at head, browning, ink inscription to head of title, later boards, lower half of spine chipped with loss, covers a little browned, [Gabler G11170; Simon 112; Wing A2975], small 4to, printed for E. Hawkins, 1693.⁂ Ames' humorous poem on drinks in which wine, liquors, beer and various other drinks compete and argue for Bacchus' favour. Followed by Farewell to Wine in which Ames warns against drinking wines in taverns: "For that Damn'd Stuff which in their Vaults they brew,/ Which Mystery if we but throughly knew,/ Sooner we'd leap into the Thames or Severn,/ Than Venture on the Wine in any Tavern." Rare, we can trace only a handful of copies at auction. Provenance: Ex Dono Richardi G- (ink inscription).
Grub street recluse.- [Heywood (Thomas)] The Phoenix of these Late Times. Or the Life of H. Welby... ... who lived at his house in Grub-street forty foure yeares, and in that space, was never seene by any... who in all that time neither dranke wine, nor eate flesh, as it is testified... with some new epitaphs, engraved frontispiece (lower corner restored and shaved at foot, affecting text, chipped at head), lacking final blank f., title shaved at foot affecting imprint and with some repairs to head, several ff. chipped and repaired at extremities, F1, F2 and F3 holed with loss to text, light dampstaining, bookplate to pastedown, 20th century morocco-backed boards, [STC 25226.5], small 4to, by N. Okes, and are to be sold by Richard Clotterbuck at his shop in little Brittaine, [at the signe of the golden ball], [1637].⁂ The recluse Welby was one of Grub Street's early residents. He was the owner of the estate of Goxhill in Lincolnshire. In 1592 his half-brother attempted to shoot him with a pistol. Shocked, he took a house on Grub Street and remained there, in near-total seclusion, for the rest of his life. He died in 1636 and was buried at St. Giles in Cripplegate.Provenance: William Arthur, Sixth Duke of Portland (armorial bookplate).

William Abell (1584-1655) was a vintner and master of the Vintner's Company. "Alderman Abel and his brother-in-law Richard Kilvert made themselves very unpopular by seeking parliamentary authority for a 'Project' giving to the Vintners' Company fresh powers of control over the retail sale of wine." - Simon.
