Weathered and worn, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. The face very worn- traces of shell deposits to stone matrix visible at back of head. Overall of dark colour with green/verdigris. The whole with old repairs to top rim and to base which has had what appears to be lead panel inserted. Further lead strengthening to feet and around joints for better water containment. This has now largely worn from heavy domestic use. Top rim distorted. FIVE ANCIENT POTTERY VESSELS CIRCA 800 B.C. - 2ND CENTURY A.D. Including a Cypriot Iron Age Bichrome Ware oinochoe with high-arched handle and concentric circle decoration, 17cm high; a Greek black glazed askos, 11cm high; a Hellenistic ribbed two-handled kantharos on short hollow base, 14cm high; a buff pottery aryballos with spherical body, disc rim and slightly raised circular base, the body decorated in added umber and wine coloured slip depicting a standing winged creature with a central shield with cross design, a shield-bearing figure and other motifs in the field, 13cm high, and a Roman pottery jug with encircling ridges around the body and a ribbed handle, 20.2cm high. TWO EGYPTIAN POLYCHROME PAINTED WOOD FIGURES MIDDLE KINGDOM, CIRCA 2025-1700 B.C. Both with much of the polychrome decoration remaining, both with short black painted wigs and facial details, one shown standing with white painted kilt and wine-coloured body, feet missing, left arm raised with clenched fist, mounted, 29cm high, ink inscribed on the back of the kilt; '11 Dynasty' and '20'; the kneeling figure with white kilt and ochre painted body, one arm angled downwards, the clenched fist resting on the kilt, the other arm held out before him with clenched fist 20cm high Provenance: Purchased from Jean-Claude Ciancimino, London in the 1970s Condition Report: Standing: Proper right arm missing, feet missing and losses to the paint. Attached to the wood base.Kneeling: Proper left arm loosely attached with loose peg partially remaining, arm possibly not original to this figure. A split at the shoulder of the proper right arm. Chips to the hand. Much of the polychrome decoration remains, though there are many losses to the paintwork. The traces of an old ink inscribed label on the back. Some dents and chips to the wood.
