SPIROGYRA - OLD BOOT WINE - The marvelous 2nd LP from Lancashire legends Spirogyra (definitely not to be confused with the substandard US rock band!), issued on PEG (PEG 13). The record is in well presented VG+ condition with some light hairline markings, perhaps slightly more apparent on side 1. The fragile sleeve is in VG condition. The nature of the sleeve means there is not really a 'spine', but there is wear to this side and indeed some general wear around the edges. THere are no rips or tears.

(Liu Ling was born to love wine), overall size including wood frame 27 x 15cm (2) The legend is connected with Xi Wangmu, who had a peach grove where different qualities of peaches ripen at different times, some every 500 years, some every 1000 years and the best every 3000 years. Liu Ling (221-300) was a Chinese poet and one of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove. Provenance: Mr. Ko acquired these in Peking on 3rd September 1924 and then by direct family descent. A Chinese scroll painting by Fang Yuejuan , Qing Dynasty, Gathering in the Orchid Pavilion , ink and colour on silk, signed and inscribed, approximately 192cm x 41.5cm The scene depicts the Gathering in the Orchid Pavilion (Lanting), which was then documented by Wang Xizhi in his renowned calligraphy work Lantingji Xu: A Spring Purification Ceremony was held at Lanting, Kuaiji Prefecture where Wang Xizhi was appointed as the governor at the time. During the event, many literati gathered along the banks of a coursing stream and engaged in a drinking contest - cups of wine were drifting down from the upstream, and whenever a cup stopped in front of a guest, he had to compose a poem or otherwise drink the wine.
