(7)⁂ Osborne was Master of the Horse to Shakespeare's patron William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke. His work was very popular, particularly with Oxford scholars, and went through five editions in 1656. It was subsequently charged by Puritan divines as containing atheistic principles and forbidden to be sold, which in fact appeared to increase sales.

It would seem that ESTC erroneously calls for a frontispiece for the first mentioned, but this in fact is the full-page illustration at p.114.

A George III mahogany bookcase cabinetcirca 1760of one piece, the dentil cut cornice above a blind fret frieze, the pair of glazed panel doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the base with a pair of flame panel doors and four ribbon tied and diamond mouldings, on a plinth baseheight 237cm, width 167cm, depth 33cm approxCondition:: In good condition overall with marks, scratches and wear commensurate with age and use. One minor moulding loss to left door. The right return moulding to the base looks later, the side moulding above is later. On the other side the lower section of the base, below the moulding is later. The right to left frieze section is a little uneven to its right side, most likely due to shrinkage to the wood.It is possible the cabinet may have been an architectural fitment.COLLECTION NOTICE.  Lot 6  Must  be collected from the Auction venue by 1pm Friday 28th.  Please arrange transport before this deadline.   We are unable to transport this lot into our storage facility after the auction.

There is also some spotting to the wash mount. The Soldiers has some watermarks to the top left and right corners but again this doesn't detract from the work.

It has been framed with an acidic mount which has resulted in some staining to the margins of the print. The margins also have some light smudges of surface dirt. The sheet has the title '"St. Luke's Church, Old Street, London E.C." by L.S. Lowry' underneath the mount. The edition number is written in reverse i.e. 850/492 ( it would normally be written as 492/850).
