Sir James Brabazon Urmston (1785-1850), was the British East India Company’s chief in China from 1819 to 1826, based in Canton. He was knighted in 1824. Penzer pp. 37-38. The first issue was bound in light fawn cloth with blind ornamental border on front and back covers. The second issue was bound in light blue cloth, with a more elaborate blind border on the covers. Penzer states “In this issue, which was probably the ‘remainder’ the frontispiece is now the plate which faced p.60 in the first issue. The other plates and the folding map are in the same places... Occasionally copies turn up in the market bound in red cloth stamped with an elaborate design in gold. These are ‘Prize’ copies specially prepared for schools, etc. by the publisher”. (1)

The first complete Latin bible printed in England. STC 2056.4; Darlow & Moule 6166. Samuel Stallon was a rector of All Saints Church in North Barsham, Norfolk (died 1613) and the signature of Thomas Tallis is not that of the illustrious Elizabethan composer but that of Thomas Tallis, a school master at Holt, Norfolk (died 1640). The auctioneers would like to thank the Norfolk Record Office for their kind assistance and persistance in relation to the correct identification of this Thomas Tallis. (1)
