It is a story of a group of blind men who have never come across an elephant before and who learn and conceptualize what the elephant is like by touching it. Each blind man feels a different part of the elephant's body, but only one part, such as the side or the tusk. Lyrik und Prosa zum Thema Gold waren rasch zu finden, von Shakespeare über Schiller bis zu Trakl und Tucholsky, und insgesamt elf Künstler aus fünf Nationen waren spontan bereit, an einem rundum goldenen Pressendruck auf goldenem italienischem Feinstpapier (Inapa Shyne) mitzuwirken.« - Die drucktechnische Herausforderung löste der Verleger mit einer digitalen »Scodix«-Druckmaschine, die farblosen Relieflack mit feinsten Düsen auf das Papier sprüht. Grüne Halblederbände mit Blind- und Goldprägung auf den Rücken.Erste Ausgabe, vollständig mit den beiden Anhängen zu Band 1 und 2, alle Teile im Erstdruck. - Erste Aufzeichnungen zu Jean Pauls »Kardinal- und Kapitalroman« entstanden bereits 1792. - Im zweiten Teil des Anhangs findet sich der Erstdruck von »Des Luftschiffers Giannozzos Seebuch«. - Jean Paul selbst bezeichnete den Roman, der ihn mehr als zehn Jahre beschäftigte, als das »liebste und beste unter meinen Werken«. Seine Kritik an den bestehenden politischen Verhältnissen, die aber vorwiegend auf Kritik am fürstlichen Absolutismus beschränkt blieb, legte Jean Paul - wohl nicht zuletzt aus Gründen der Zensurabwehr - »einem über ganz Deutschland [...] wegschiffenden Giannozzo, einem wilden Menschenverächter in den Mund, der blos in seinem Namen spricht« (Brief an Christian Otto, zitiert nach KLL XI, 9400). - Ansprechend gebunden und gut erhalten.17,2 : 11,0 cm. A Lowestoft teabowl and saucer painted in coloured enamels with Chinese figures circa. 1780, a Worcester 'Blind Earl' plate moulded and coloured in enamels circa. 1765 and a Caughley fluted coffee cup painted in gilt with husk swags circa. 1790 (4). Lowestoft tea bowl and saucer, rim chip to the saucer and a restored crack also, tea bowl good. Both with glaze and enamel wear. Blind earl plate with restored cracks. Caughly cup with very slight rim fritting and some glaze pitting to the underside, no repair.
