After HELEN BRADLEY; a signed coloured print "To The Boat", bearing blind stamp lower left, 44 x 59.5cm, framed and glazed and a further signed coloured print after the same artist (2). CONDITION REPORT: Frame badly damaged of smaller print. Pictures good. Frames are modern gilt painted wood.
A George III mahogany longcase clock with a 33cm brass and silvered dial signed with a plaque J.Kaye, Liverpool with subsidiary seconds ring against a leaf and lattice ground, outer date calendar, Roman and Arabic numerals, cast leafy spandrels, the arch painted with a dwelling in landscape, the case with a swan neck and leafy cresting, minor reductions, fluted columns above a blind fret work carved frieze, shaped long door in well figured wood, fluted quarter columns raised upon a panelled plinth base and ogee bracket feet, 226cms high with pendulum, two weights and a winding key, (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: The centre above the swan neck and flower cresting has been cut, glazed door original, glazing to door original, chaptering bright, centre and spandrels good bright condition, some dentil moulding missing beneath the hood, right hand side approx. 14cms, small piece to the left approx 2cm, small piece on the angle on the left hand side 5cms, right hand side going back to the wall three small pieces, blind fret carving on the front frieze good, blind fret frieze left hand side section missing at the back approx. 8cms, some blind fret cover missing on the right hand side approx. 7 cms, good well figured door, well figured plinth, bracket foot on the right front missing, original back board, original seat board, just below the seat board there is a rectangular section cut away possibly infilled with later piece of wood.

Rare third edition (first in pocket size) of Nevizzano's very famous treatise on marriage.Giovanni Nevizzano studied law in Pavia, Padova and Torino where, before becoming teacher, he got his doctorate in 1511. Witty and brilliant, he put into the Sylva Nuptialis not only his ability to synthesize some original solutions for the marriage law of the time, but also a vein of misogyny, coming from Petrarchan hints, that brought him the hostility of some powerful Piedmont noblewomen, that led him to formal amends. (92.5cms.) high x 41 1/2ins. (105.5cms.) wide x 24ins. (61cms.) deep Comparable chests are in the collections of The Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth and The Earl of Pembroke at Wilton. A George III mahogany secrétaire chest on chest, the broken pediment centred a pedestal with a later ribbed urn finial with pierced fretwork carving and a Greek key moulding, above a blind fretwork frieze and two short and three long graduated drawers, fitted with ribbon tied swag gilt brass handles, the secrétaire drawer fitted with pigeon holes and shaped drawers with barber`s pole stringing with a central mirrored cupboard door flanked by faux leather book secret pilaster compartments, with two further drawers and secret compartments, flanked by pierced fret carved canted angles, possibly later, and rusticated quoins, the base with three long graduated cedar lined drawers on ogee bracket feet, 224cm high, 123.2cm wide, 59.5cm deep. Provenance: The Baroness De Stempel, Heath House, Herefordshire. Sold by Christie`s, Fine English Furniture, Thursday 9th April 1992, lot 123, when purchased by the present vendor. The use of rustication, blind fretwork and ogee bracket feet point to a North Country origin. The design for the swagged handles feature in an article by N. Goodison, Metalwork Pattern Books, Furniture History, 1975, p.12, fig. 22.
