Fenelon (Francois de Salignac de la Mothe). Little Tales, 4 volumes, 6th edition, Guben, Germany: F. Fechner, and London: A. & J. Myers, circa 1850s, eight hand-coloured lithographed plates, including frontispieces, each title with blind-embossed bookseller's stamp from Guben, scarce light spotting, similarly bound in original gilt patterned paper boards, each with embossed floral motif onlaid in centre of upper cover, some joints and spine ends lightly rubbed, rear joint of volume 3 slightly splitting at tail, contained together in original decorative cardboard box (worn), lid (two corners split) with remnants of embossed decoration and wording 'The Lilliputian Library', 71 x 102 x 26 mm (2.75 x 4 x 1 ins) See Welsh 2799 and 2800. Not in Osborne or Gumuchian. Ours agrees with the Bodleian Library's copy, although their description does not state edition. Volume 1 contains 'Story of Flora', 'The Ape', 'The Two Mice'; volume 2 'Alibée, 'The Young Princes', 'The Bee and the Fly'; volume 3 'A Journey to Fairyland', 'The Story of an Old Queen and a Young Peasant'; volume 4 'The Island of Delight', 'The Cat and the Rabbits', 'The Meeting of the Animals to Choose a King'. The Rhinegold & The Valkyrie, 1910/Siegfried & the Twilight of the Gods, 1911, by Richard Wagner, translated by Margaret Armour, 1st editions, thirty-four and thirty tipped-in colour plates respectively, one or two corners a little creased, Rhinegold with light dampstaining to some lower blank corners, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, remainder untrimmed, modern brown morocco, each cover with design in gilt and blind, both rear covers with gilt-lettered title label, 4to Riall, pages 103 & 109. Deluxe limited editions 301/1150 and 369/1150 respectively, each signed by the artist. A handsome set in an unusual binding. (2)

The third edition, in which D1r last line begins "of"; 7B5v has editor's "An Aduertisement to the Readers". (1)

P. Goldschmidt and Co. Dupuis (François) Cathena Aurea Super Psalmos, collation: AA8 BB4 a-y8 A-Q8 R6, double column, Gothic type, printed in red and black, title with woodcut printer's device at foot, full-page woodcut of King David at his harp to verso of BB4, handsome woodcut criblé initials, early ink marginalia, p3&4 upper corners torn away, with loss of part of a side-note on p3, wormholes within text, some staining, mostly marginal, contemporary blind-stamped panelled calf over wooden boards, rebacked in 20th century calf, some loss of calf on covers, corners repaired, 4to (253 x 176mm.), Paris, Jean Petit, March, 1520.⁂ First edition of these commentaries on the Psalms, by the Carthusian Dupuis, handsomely printed in Paris. Austen, Jane - Sense and Sensibility, Clarke's Cabinet Edition, 2 vols, 239 & 244pp, contemporary green half calf and marbled boards, gilt and blind decorated panelled spines with red labels, marbled endpapers and edges, with the original colour-printed pictorial and decorated upper wrappers bound-in, , sm. 8vo, H.G. Clarke & Co, 1844 Vol. 1 - spine worn at head (slight loss), joints weak, front inner hinge cracked, back one weak, corners reasonably good, title and wrapper browning, some text spotting (mostly early on); Vol 2 - some spine wear, corners reasonable, front inner hinge weak, some wrapper and title browning, 1 leaf (pp.51/52) carelessly opened, otherwise quite good inside. Wrappers - Gilson E2: 'no copy has been seen in original wrappers or in original cloth .......... I have one in publisher's dark red morocco gilt...with the front 'illuminated' wrapper board in......' No half titles called for (ie. wrappers are pp. 1 & 2), black before wrapper and end of text. The wrapper design 'a curious Moorish/Gothic scene (Gilson) would be very suitable for Walker Scott (possibly was used as such); the (3) and (2) pp. following the respective texts were publisher's adverts/lists, not present here. This, and the lot following, were the first separate editions following copyright expiry.
Austen, Jane - Pride and Prejudice, A Novel, Clarke's Cabinet Edition, 2 vols (3), 229 (3) & 247pp (lacking half titles), contemporary green half calf and marbled board, gilt and blind decorated panelled spines with red labels, marbled endpapers and edges, with the original colour-printed decorated upper wrappers bound-in, sm.8vo, H.G. Clarke & Co, 1844 Vol 1 - slight wear head of spine and corners, some browning front blank and title, mostly clean elsewhere, the front blank band before coloured wrapper, blank at end (following p.229); Vol 2 - lower band present, but detached together with approx. 8cms. (ex. 13) of spine upper part (which has approx. 1cm. at head missing and a central tear, with slight loss, label intact), slight wear at corners; detached board has taken with it pp.241-247, inside upper hinge weak, some slight stains and creasing inside, but generally good, as Vol 1 there is a blank before upper wrapper at one end of text. Wrappers-Gilson E3: 'binding presumably as E2, but no copy in original binding has been seen'; hf titles called for (white E2), also (3) and (9) pp. after respective texts - apparently these were the publisher's lists/adverts, but not present here. The wrappers have a 'romantique' style appearance, in gold and colours, with the colour printer's name at foot - Gregory, Collins and Reynolds; being shaved from Vo. 2
