ELIZABETH II: (1926- ) Queen of the United Kingdom 1952- . D.S., Elizabeth R, as Queen, at the head, one page, large oblong folio, Court of Saint James's, 10th November 1952. The partially printed document appoints Charles Alexander Gault to be 'an Officer of the Sixth Grade of Branch A of Our Foreign Service at any of Our Diplomatic or Consular Establishments abroad or in the Department of Our Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs' with effect from 3rd January 1950. Countersigned at the foot by Anthony Eden (1897-1977) British Prime Minister 1955-57, Foreign Secretary 1940-45, 1951-55. With blind embossed seal. The signatures of both the Queen and Eden are slightly faded, although legible, and there is an extensive amount of light damp staining to the foot of the document, very slightly affecting Eden's signature, but not the text. (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: The case, the hood with a pineapple gilt finial, the plinth which it sits upon and the lower small plinth may be associated, dentil and blind fretwork and flowers good condition, hinges sound but a little loose, glass good condition, old putty around the rim, fluted columns good condition, fret work sides good condition, the trunk door fits flush to cabinet no warp, hinges solid no movement, minor scratching just below the door, minor surface scratching to raised panel plinth, some scratching to front claw and egg feet, the arched dial surface scratching to the arch, possibly later centre sweep hand, movement striking on a coiled gong, foot board original some rust to the pendulum hook, some signs of later soldering to the bracket which supports the pendulum, movement complete, some space between the arched dial and the cheek boards, with two weights and a pendulum.
