A pair of George II style mahogany and parcel gilt serpentine commodes in the manner of William Vile, each with a crossbanded and moulded edge top above two frieze drawers, above a cupboard and a blind fret apron centred a shell, with leaf carved canted angles on scroll legs and hoof feet, late 19th century, 34.5in (87.6cm) h, 49.25in (125cm) w, 24.5in (62.3cm) d. A mahogany longcase clock, with a three train musical movement striking on a peel of eight bells and a gong with a 12 inch brass arched dial with silvered chapter ring and subsidiary seconds dial, the arch with a painted moon phase, the pagoda hood with a central pierced blind fret panel having ball and eagle brass finials above an arched trunk door with fluted canted corners, the base on splay bracket feet, 91in (231cm) h. Movement, dial and case associated, case with warped trunk door and cracks to veneer, back left foot part missing.
Daniel Delander. A George I walnut and marquetry longcase clock, with a month going movement having five ring turned pillars and a 12 inch square brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial and pierced date aperture, the silvered chapter ring inscribed 'Dan. Delander. London.', the walnut and marquetry case with a moulded cornice and a blind fret frieze, the door with spiral turned pilasters, above a rectangular cushion moulded trunk door with lenticle decorated flowering urns and figures, with plain walnut sides having stringing to a conforming base and plinth, 83.5in (212cm) h. A pendulum and two weights. Restoration to the case.
A third quarter of the 18th Century Oak cased 30 hour Long Case Clock, Henry Deykin of Worcester, No 988, the hood with caddy top over an overhanging cornice to a blind fret, and ¾ plain columns, to an ogee throat and long trunk door, and raised on a plinth base, to 10" square brass dial, with case and applied foliate and urn spandrels, enclosing a Roman chapter ring with stylised fleur-de-lys half-hour markers, and inside track to a matted centre, with named and numbered arched nameplate, and single pierced steel hand, to a movement with plates united by four knopped pillars, and anchor escapement, strike on a bell, height 82"

HITLER ADOLF: (1889-1945) Fuhrer of the Third Reich 1934-45. D.S., A Hitler, one page, 4to, Berlin, 26th June 1941, in German. The typed document states 'I confer on the 130 subjects of the German Reich, who are specified on this list, permission to accept the foreign orders and decorations awarded to them. The individual documents confirming this permission are to be provided with facsimiles of my signature.' At the base of the document is a typed summary of the recipients including members of the President's Private office, the Foreign Office, Army, Navy, various Reich Ministries etc. Countersigned by Otto Meissner (1880-1953, Head of the Office of the Reich President). With blind embossed seal featuring the Nazi swastika and eagle. With blank integral leaf (partially neatly clipped) and with two file holes to left edge, not affecting text or signature. Together with two smaller related typed documents, one signed by Meissner with an abbreviated signature, the first breaking down the 130 recipients by status (civil servants, private individuals etc., also noting Reich Minister Rust), and the second directing that the individual orders be prepared with the date line Berlin, 26th June 1941, and confirming that they should feature a facsimile signature of Hitler. Accompanied by a full English translation. Some very light age wear and a few minor stains, not affecting the signatures. Otherwise VG, 3
DVORAK ANTONIN: (1841-1904) Czech Composer. Bold, dark fountain pen ink signature ('Antonin Dvorak') and date, Birmingham, 27th August 1885, in his hand on a sheet of 8vo blind embossed stationery. Also signed by Alexander Mackenzie (1847-1935, Scottish Composer, head of the Royal Academy of Music 1888-1924) and the tenor William J. Winch with their names alone. Rare. VG. The Birmingham Triennial Music Festival was founded in 1784 and was the longest running classical musical festival of its kind, the last performance taking place in 1912. Dvorak's The Spectre's Bride debuted at the Festival to great acclaim in 1885.
TENNYSON ALFRED: (1809-1892) English Poet Laureate. D.S., A Tennyson, being a signed cheque, issued on an 8vo sheet of blind embossed notepaper from Farringford, Freshwater, Isle of Wight, 15th July 1864. The manuscript cheque, in the hand of Tennyson's wife Emily, is made payable to Thomas Wilson for the sum of £35. Two bank cancellations lightly affect Tennyson's signature which remains legible. VG
KELLER HELEN: (1880-1968) American deafblind Author, Activist and Lecturer. T.L.S., Helen Keller, in bold pencil, one page, 4to, New York, 27th April 1951, to Desmond Harmsworth, on the printed stationery of the American Foundation for Overseas Blind. The form letter states that there are fourteen million blind people in the world today, most living in India, Egypt and China, and comments 'Blindness is to live long, long days-- and life is made up of days. It is to live immured, baffled, all God's work shut out. It is to sit helpless, staring into the dark with nothing but the dark staring back...' Keller's letter further states that the American Foundation for Overseas Blind is working hard around the world 'to inspire leadership to guide blind people out of their well of darkness and to put equipment into their hands for schooling and tools with which to work.' and in concluding asks for a gift from Harmsworth to the foundation. Accompanied by the original envelope and a small pamphlet entitled The Blind Overseas. VG
ANNE QUEEN: (1665-1714) Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland 1702-14. D.S., Anna R, as Queen, at the head, one page (vellum), oblong folio, Palace of St. James, 12th March 1703. The manuscript document, in Latin, appoints Thomas, Baron of Raby, to represent Her Majesty's interests at the Court of Prussia and to be accorded all right, privileges and amenities that go with the appointment. Countersigned at the foot by Sir Charles Hedges, Secretary of State for the Southern Department 1704-06. With good blind embossed paper seal affixed. The text and signature are very slightly light, although perfectly legible, probably as a result of the original ink being slightly weak rather than fading. VG
WILLIAM IV: (1765-1837) King of the United Kingdom 1830-37. L.S., William, Ad. of the Fleet, one page, folio, n.p. ('Impregnable, in the Downes'), 21st May 1814, to the Commissioners of His Majesty's Navy. William, as Admiral of the Fleet, transmits a Report of Survey (no longer present) to his correspondents. Slight splitting to the edges of the folds. G. Also includes William R, as King, at the head, one page, oblong folio, Court at St James's, 16th December 1831. The partially printed document, on vellum, is a military commission appointing Edmund Boyds to be a Coronet in the 14th (Duchess of York's) Regiment if Light Dragoons commanded by Major General Sir Edward Kermin (?). Countersigned by Viscount Melbourne (1779-1848, Home Secretary and British Prime Minister 1834, 1835-41). With blind embossed paper seal affixed. Slightly neatly trimmed to the upper edge, just affecting the Monarch's signature, otherwise in very clean condition. About VG. 2
GEORGE V OF HANOVER: (1819-1878) Last King of Hanover 1851-66. Cousin of Queen Victoria. D.S., Georg, as King, at the foot, one page, oblong vellum, Hanover, 23rd May 1851. The partially printed document, in German (untranslated), relates to a patent issued to Carl August Johann Daniel von Lude. Signed by George at the base, when blind, alongside a blind embossed paper seal. Some slight ink blotting at the conclusion of the signature. Light overall wrinkling. G

The partially printed document is a military commission appointing Robert Bruce to be a Captain in the 23rd Regiment of Foot. Countersigned at the foot by George Grey (1799-1882, British Politician, Home Secretary). With blind embossed paper seal. Some very light overall foxing and minor creasing at the edges, small area of paper loss at the right, not affecting the text or signatures. G

Countersigned at the foot by Edward Stanhope (1840-1893, British Politician, Secretary of State for War 1887-92). With blind embossed blue paper seal (slight cracking and staining). VG
A 17th Century Lancashire Joined Oak Wainscot Armchair. The top rail blind-fret carved with stylised flowers, rosette whorls & palmate detailing. The back panel divided by an interlaced geometric strap-work knot into four triangles enriched with leaf & bud carving. The downswept arms above short turned supports adjoining the seat with engrailed edges and leading on to meet the ball & fillet turned legs united by run-moulded peripheral stretchers.
