Wing C4685A. Morris, John Cleveland Bibliography (1967) P3. The Cambridge Royalist Poet John Cleveland (1613-1658), opposed the election of Oliver Cromwell during the long parliament, as a result of which he lost his position as lecturer at St. John's College, Cambridge. In 1655 he was imprisoned at Yarmouth, but released by Cromwell, and died in London three years later. (1)

An Hermès off-white leather Kelly bag, 1991, blind stamp U, with gold-plated hardware, leather covered padlock, fob and keys, with detachable shoulder strap, 29cm, 11 1/2in CONDITION REPORT: Some scuffs and light marks to bag commensurate with light use. Exterior leather is a bit grubby and would benefit from cleaning. Small pen mark to inside flap. Interior base is speckled with faint pink marks. Overall bag is quite fresh and good.
An Hermès green courchevel leather Birkin, 1994, blind stamp X, in original box, with gold plated hardware, leather fob with two keys, shopping and dust bag, 33cm, 13in long (qty) CONDITION REPORT: Has been reconditioned to corners of base, leather is rubbed on handles from use, faint small greasemark to front, otherwise exterior is good. Interior shows signs of heavy use around sides and edges where leather is worn. Lacking padlock.
An unusual Regency period satinwood edged rosewood sofa table, probably colonial India, the top hinged to reveal a part fitted interior including a pair of large rectangular zinc caddy style canisters, flanked by drop ends over pairs of blind drawers, the whole raised on twin pillar trestle ends with spindle detail to brass leaf cast toes to castors, 94 cm x 62 cm x 72 cm h By repute a tea plantation owners / blenders table, for the distribution of wages. *Jacopo da Trezzo (c. 1514-89), Mary Tudor, Queen of England (1553-58), silver medal, bust left wearing elaborately embroidered gown, a brooch with pendant pearl at her breast and a cap adorned with jewels; signed below, iac trez, rev., cecis visvs timidis qvies, figure of Peace seated on throne, setting fire to a pile of arms laid before her; below the throne are a cube with two clasped hands on one of its sides and a pair of scales (representing Stability, Unity and Justice); to the left are suppliant figures beset by a storm; to the right are other figures and a round temple (representing the Catholic Church) 64.7mm (Attwood 80; MI I, 72, 20; Arm I, 241, 3; Pollard Bargello 725 = Vannel & Toderi 469; Middeldorf & Steibral pl. 72), the fields chased, an extremely fine early cast with grey toning [ex Clifford collection]. Ex Robert O’Connor, George Street, London, 1960s. Known as the State of Britain medal this was Trezzo’s finest medallic work and Mary’s image isvery close to the portrait painting of the queen by Antonis Mors made around the same time as the medal, in 1554. The Latin reverse inscription translates as “sight to the blind, tranquillity to the fearful”. Examples are most commonly found in bronze but silver specimens exist, most notably those of the Bargello, Florence and the ex Chigi piece recorded by Middeldorf & Steibral. A gold specimen is in the British Museum and another formed part of the Stack collection, sold in these rooms, 9 December 2009, lot 136.

This first annual is a 'library' copy and was kept in D C Thomson's main office in Meadowside, Dundee. There is a 'John Leng & Co Ltd Dundee' blind embossed stamp at the top margin on page four and D C Thomson have confirmed that only these library copies were embossed in this way. A 19th century Chinese Canton carved ivory fan, the guards each blind carved with figure scenes and mythical beasts, the nineteen sticks each finely carved with busy figure landscape and pagoda scenes, having vacant central cartouche, 19cm Condition Report / Extra Information Some sticks with small number of minor losses to pierced gauze. One stick chipped upper left. Guards with some yellowing.
Keith Woodcock, 20th century, Portrait of power, limited edition print no. 74/850, signed in pencil to the margin, with gallery blind stamp, 49.5 x 69cm, together with three Robert Taylor prints "The Dambusters", "Sea Fury M.I.G. Encounter" and "Duel of Eagles", the later signed Douglas Bader and Adolf Galland. (4) Condition Report / Extra Information Some fading to Bader signature. No apparent foxing or spotting.
A George III style mahogany sofa, with rollover arms, squab cushion and raised on blind fret carved front legs. Width 196 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This settee is reproduction and possibly only 25-30 years old. It is structurally sound with no damage or repairs to any of the exposed woodwork other than minor scuffs and knocks that one would expect. The right hand front leg has one edge timber loss approximately 5 cm up from the bottom of the leg on the right hand side. The upholstery is in reasonable condition and is serviceable. There is however ingrained dirt on the tops of the arms and along the rear of the back. There is also staining to the front edge of the squab cushion and to the left hand arm support. This may well clean however please be aware of this discolouration in places.

after Charles Johnson Payne 'Snaffles' (British, 1884-1967), four signed colour lithographs laid onto pictorial mounts, comprising 'A Wet Nalla', 'The Forward Heat?', 'Getting Cantankerous' and 'Got yer you old badmash!', all signed in pencil and with artist's bits blind stamp, 16½ x 24¾in. (42 x 63cm.). (4) * Condition: All in poor to fair condition, in pre-war Boots frames, with insect dust beneath glass.- The Forward Heat: glass missing, fading to the print and some wear to the paper surface the the margins of the lithograph. Also damage to surface of the card on the mount at two points (possibly insect damage) and a small cut to the mount at bottom centre. A little foxing. - A Wet Nalla:Some foxing across the mount and insect damage to the printed image to bottom left of mount. Three small patches of damage to surface of lithograph.- Got yer...: 2 x 2in. piece missing from top right corner of mount. Some foxing across mount, fair overall.- Getting Cantankerous: Lithograph faded. Foxing across mount. Fair overall.
