A Chinese blue and white Kangxi (1662-1722) vase, of inverted baluster form decorated with scholars either looking at scrolls, paintings, playing the Qin on a table with censor and incense tools of playing Go, all above numerous boys in leisurely pursuit to include drumming, a lion parade, blind mans buff and flying kites, the neck with Buddhist symbols, with double under glazed blue circles to the underside, with later hand carved and pierced wood cover. Height excluding cover 34 cm, including cover 44 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The later wooden lid is in good order with no issues. The vase itself has no damage, repairs or restoration. We can see no evidence of any hairline cracks to the body. The top rim is in good order. The base rim has minor scuffs and nibbles to the sharp glazed edge. These are all old marks and there are no significant chips at this point.
A 19th century mahogany oval tray, well figured with blind gallery. Width 68 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The tray is in structurally good condition. The gallery is not loose. There has been one small old repair to the gallery but this is minor. The colour of the tray is good. The top surface has some minor scuffs and marks with no significant issues.
An Edwardian inlaid mahogany display cabinet, with blind dentil cornice above a pair of glazed doors enclosing shelves and all raised on tapered legs of square section terminating in spade feet. Width 114 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Width at cornice 114 cm, depth at cornice 43 cm, width across front of cabinet 107 cm, depth at same point 39 cm. The condition of the cabinet is generally very good. There are no issues with the cornice or frieze. The doors are not warped. There is no cracked glass. The lower panels are a little dirty however a damp cloth will wipe away the mildew. The centre edging strip has two small losses. The piece is structurally sound. There is slight movement at the leg joints which is fairly typical for a cabinet of this sort.
A George III mahogany longcase clock by Emanuel Burton Kendal, with eight day striking movement with centre seconds and moon phase. Dial width 13 1/4", the case with swans neck pediment above a glazed door flanked by columns, the case with long trunk door and quarter column corners. Height 232 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock is in generally very good original unrestored condition. The movement appears to be all present. When weight is applied to both the strike and going trains the movement appears to operate. It is however extremely dirty and the suspension for the pendulum is missing so we have not had the clock actually running. Whilst slightly unusual we see no reason why the compensated pendulum is not original. The seatboard is original and the clock is quite clearly not a marriage. We have both weights and winding key. The case itself is in generally very good order. There are no losses to the hood. The very top arch of each swans neck appears to have been detached at some point but clearly a long time ago. There are a few old woodworm holes at the top of the hood between the swans neck pediment. The door is not warped but has slightly sprung at the corner joints. The pillars are in good order. The Greek key work beneath the hood is all present as is the blind fretwork. The trunk door has no significant warping. It closes correctly. There is only a very small gap between the top of the door and the case when fully closed. There is a smattering of old woodworm holes to the top sections of the trunk door but these are clearly old and long gone (14). The base is in generally good condition with only minor stress fractures to the veneers on the front panel. These are not lifting. The bracket feet are original and in generally good order. The left hand return base moulding has a small loss to the rear. The trunk door when viewed from underneath does show some warping. This is only when viewed from underneath which is not a likely occurrence. The backboards are original. We have posted more photographs online which should help.
After Lawrence Stephen Lowry R.A. (British 1887-1976), "Landscape with Farm Buildings", signed in pencil in margin, with Fine Art Trade Guild blind stamp and further blind stamp initials CDD, colour reproduction, published in 1974 by Venture Prints Ltd., Bristol, England. Image 40 cm x 50 cm (see illustration). ARR CONDITION REPORT: The print is glazed, framed and mounted. The back of the picture is board and we have not attempted to see if the print is stuck down. It has clearly been professionally framed so we would imagine that it has been mounted correctly but cannot guarantee that is has not been stuck down. There is no foxing or damage to the print. It is signed bottom right in pencil. It has the stamps to the bottom left corner. At the top of the print it stated “Published in 1974 by Venture Prints Ltd., Bristol, England, Copy right in all countries including the USA. Printed in England.” The colours in the print are strong and in our opinion not faded. The colours are as the image online.
