Solomonic Magic.- The Keys of Rabbi Solomon Translated accurately from the Hebrew into English by Edward Hunter, The whole embelished by a vast number of mysterious figures, Talismans, Pentacles, manuscript, title and 56pp., in red and black ink, numerous drawings of symbols in the text, ruled in red throughout, title slightly browned and soiled, new endpapers, bound in modern dark red crushed and polished morocco with blind-stamped symbols, housed in custom folding case lined in silk. in the text, watermarked "Whatman, 1827", 4to, [c. 1830].⁂ A partial translation of the Key of Solomon, similar to that of Sibley's Clavis, although it is debatable to what extent Hunter may or may not have relied upon the Clavis translation. A mixture of Jewish and Arabic mysticism with later medieval magic, probably originally produced in Italy in the 14th century.

Arabic manuscript.- Abu Nuwas al-hasan b. Haniʾ al-Hakami (classical Arabic poet, c.756-early 9th century CE) Diwan, manuscript in Arabic, on 19th-century Russian wove paper, lightly burnished, with the blind-stamp of Factory No.4 Sergiev(a), c.355pp., copied by Muhammad bin Abi Turab (potentially a pseudonym), in an informal hand, with numerous ink notes and corrections (by the same), trimmed at fore-edge affecting some notes, toning, occasional light staining or soiling, final few ff. almost loose, contemporary sheep, paper label to spine titled in ink, some staining, particularly to head of lower cover, rubbed, lower joint with small loss to head, 4to (215 x 170mm.), n.p., c.1287 AH [c.1870 CE].⁂ This copy of the Diwan is in the recension of al-Suli, the earliest of those in circulation, divided into ten chapters, arranged by theme (wine poetry, love poetry (including same-sex), ascetic verses, &c), and, though brief, light on spuriously attributed verses compared to more capacious later recensions. While the location of the manuscript is not stated, Iran to Istanbul seems the likely geographic range. Copies of the Diwan are uncommon, even institutionally.

Law.- Intrationum excellentissimus liber, first edition, printed in black letter, title in red and black with large woodcut arms on verso, woodcut initials and typographic devices at end of paragraphs, fine large woodcut device on verso of final leaf, some foxing, marginal browning, 19th century russia, the covers with large panels with lozenge shaped hatching incorporating Tudor roses, all within gilt and blind rules, joints and spine ends repaired, a little rubbed, [STC 14116; Ames II p.441 "very rare book"], folio, Richard Pynson, 1510.⁂ Rare and important English legal post-incunable with evidence of contemporary ownership. It comprises the precedents for most forms of legal proceedings then in use, in real, personal and mixed actions, civil and criminal, as well as valuable information on the preparation of writs and execution.Provenance: W. Crofton (contemporary signature at head of title, and with his 2-line acquisition note beneath printer's device at end recording his purchase from the London bookseller and printer Robert Redman on 15 February 1539 for the (then very substantial) sum of ten shillings.

Education of Princes.- Elyot (Sir Thomas) The Boke Named the Governour, black letter, 4pp. faint water-staining towards end, bookplate and occasional blind-stamps of the Earls of Macclesfield, 'Godly Prayers' at beginning, first ff. with marginal hole just touching odd letter and tear into text, marginal worming to last few ff., lacking endpapers, contemporary calf, lacking ties, a little rubbed, bumping to corners and extremities, [STC 7640; PMM 61 (first edition)], 8vo, [Thomas Marsh], 1557.⁂ The present work is the most important of Elyot's writings. First published in 1531, and humanist in approach, it argues for a system where the monarch has unlimited power and discusses the educational needs of such future princes, from reading to exercise and music.

Text in German. Half-tone portrait frontispiece. Original red vinyl over paper boards, titled and stamped with a star in blind on the upper cover. 1st Edition of the German language edition.SIGNED BY CHAIRMAN MAO ALONGSIDE HIS PORTRAIT. It is estimated that 5 billion copies of the Little Red Book were printed by the close of the 20th Century, but just a handful were actually signed by Mao.THE VOLUME IS ALSO SIGNED BY ANDRIES OELE and dated 1974 on the title page. He was a Dutch radical Maoist in 1970s Rotterdam. following his murder by the husband of a woman he was having an affair with, his extensive library, almost exclusively of Socialist, Maoist and Maxist-Leninist subject matter, was sold, with this volume being purchased by the family of the current vendor.FURTHER NOTE ON PROVENANCE: The flysheet also has a handwritten note - 'Pe 6.2.69. Gen. Hertsfeldt. Yu Zhen', referring to the fact that the volume is believed to have been presented to General Gustav Hertzfeldt, the East German Ambassador to Beijing at that time, when he met with the Head of the Main Department in the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Yu Zhan, on this date.

The eight-day weight-driven movement with four knopped and finned pillars, the going train with anchor escapement and solid escape wheel, the pallet arbor set in a single footed cock on the backplate; the striking train with outside countwheel and detent acting on a vertically mounted bell of large size. A very fine first half of the 18th century walnut longcase clockDaniel Quare and Stephen Horseman, London, No. 199The stepped caddy top with brass ball-and-spire finials over blind cut frets, brass-mounted Doric three-quarter and quarter columns to the front and rear angles, the long door of particularly lively burr figuring within a featherbanded border and moulded edge, the base with similar veneered panel within a crossbanded border on double plinth. The 12 inch arched brass dial with large subsidiary date flanked by addorsed dolphin spandrels over the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with floating lozenge half-hour markers and inner quarter-hour track, signed in polished reserve of the matted centre Dan Quare Ste. ‘Stack House’ a good and important early English painted wooden dolls house and contents, circa 1820, previously on display at the Vivien Greene Dolls House museum, the façade and sides with painted trompe l’oeil, creating a convincing red brick Regency house with stone string course, panelled front door with fanlight, Doric columns to portico and nine sash windows with painted blinds, the kitchen window is particularly interesting and shows a wire blind to keep out flies and a maidservant peering over, awaiting visitors perhaps, the black pitch roof has two chimneys, the front opens in two wings to four rooms, hallway and landing, mounted on a wooden stand. Hallway: this is entered by a painted wooden archway with painted marbled columns, leading to staircase with red silk carpet and ochre painted walls. Kitchen: with plain wood walls and floor, Evans and Cartwright tinplate cooking range with wooden fire surround and brass hand wound mechanical spit Jack, fixed hanging wooden shelves and a selection of kitchen furniture including wooden table, chairs, tinplate Evans & Cartwright chair, food, pots, pans, plates, serving dishes, kettle, utensils and more. Ground floor dining room: with cream floral wallpapers, Evans and Cartwright tinplate fireplace and painted wooden ‘marbled’ surround, good amount of furniture to include wooden tables, pink upholstered chairs with settee, bureau, bird in cage, chessboard (incomplete), and various ornaments, together with two bisque shoulder head seated gentlemen. First floor landing: with blue floral wallpapers, chest of drawers, pram and painted wooden Grodnertal doll in original clothes. House (without stand) 36” (91cm) tall, with stand 59 ¾” (151.5cm), 40” (112cm) wide, 15 ½” (39cm) deep. Stand 24” (61cm) tall, (condition: some repaired cracks to façade, marble effect fireplace surrounds and kitchen surround and Jack not original, stand 19th century but probably not original to house). Provenance: The house originates from Settle in Yorkshire, where it is believed to have remained in Stack House with one family for more than one hundred years, it was subsequently sold to, an antique dealer in Sussex who sold it to Miss Mary Titcomb a friend of Vivien Greene’s, the House features in ‘English Dolls’ Houses of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century’ Vivien Greene’s first book on Dolls Houses and the house was later exhibited in her famous Rotunda Museum, Oxford. The house was sold in 1998 by Bonhams Auctioneers, London as part of the Vivien Greene museum collection. Jennifer Le Masurier later acquired the house and has since done further extensive research into the history and family which will all be offered with the house. A George III longcase clock, with eight day striking movement by Peter Paulson London, with silvered brass dial, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture with strike silent to arch, the hood with blind fretwork carving with long trunk door flanked by fluted column corners with brass capitals. Height 222 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The case has been restored recently and is in good order. There is a section of beading missing to the left-hand side. We have the weights and pendulum. The clock is not currently working due to the unlevel floors in the saleroom.
