'Breeches' Bible, 1625. Small qto. Contemp. calf with blind-stamped decorative panels; original and complete brass clasps. Engraved NT tp., 1625. Text block includes the Apocrypha and two guides : "Alphabet of directions to common places, conteyning all the Hebrewe, Caldean, Greeke, Latin, or other strange names, dispersed throughout the whole Bible, conducing to the profitablest thinges thereof." and " The second Alphabet of directions to common places, contayning all the English wordes, conducting unto most of the necessariest and profitablest doctrines, sentences and instructions, which are to be found in the olde and Newe Testament." Elaborate engraved headings and initial letters. CONDITION REPORT: Binding worn at extremities and upper board detached but virtually complete and capable of restoration. Lacking OT tp. but o/w complete ( starting with " The Translators to the Reader" ). Some minor and sporadic browning/foxing throughout. Some signatures close-cropped in the NT with slight loss of text.

Together with a smaller, royal 8vo, Welsh Bible ( 1888 ) with gilt and blind stamped binding. Well preserved, Welsh Family Bibles uncommon. CONDITION REPORT: Bindings in exceptional condition, some minor sporadic foxing.
