DAREDEVIL (2003) - Matt Murdock's (Ben Affleck) Extended Cane - Matt Murdock's (Ben Affleck) extended cane from Mark Steven Johnson's superhero crime drama Daredevil. As the masked vigilante Daredevil, Murdock wielded an adaptable billy club which he disguised as a walking cane in his daily life as a blind attorney. The fully extended cane appeared throughout the film, including when Daredevil and Elektra Natchios (Jennifer Garner) kissed in the rain.This pointed metal cane features wooden details painted in Daredevil's signature burgundy with one metal devil and one angel emblem glued, as well as a metal-studded black polyester cord affixed to the grip. The cane is fully telescoped and static, and exhibits minor scuffs and paint chipping from handling throughout. A.L.S., Gustav Adolf, Crown Prince of Sweden, three pages, 8vo, Stockholm, 22nd January 1920, to [Lionel] Cust, on the Prince's blind embossed monogrammed stationery. The Prince writes concerning Gunnar Wengstrom, a member of staff at the National Museum in Stockholm, who will be going to England for two months to study paintings and drawings, and enquires 'Might I ask you to let him see the collection at Windsor Castle and would it be possible for you to help him to get a permit to see the collection at Chatsworth too?', further adding that he hopes it will not cause Cust too much trouble and explaining that Wengstrom will be travelling at the expense of the museum. D.S., F Franco, one page, folio, El Pardo, Madrid, 25th June 1964, in Spanish. The attractive red and black printed document, with a blind embossed coat of arms at the head, acknowledges the appointment of Ramon Munoz Gonzalez y Bernaldo de Quiros as a national councillor by virtue of election by the local representation, and presents him with the title of councillor as a member of the X National Council. Signed by Franco at the foot alongside a circular blind embossed seal. With blank integral leaf. Mounted to decorative red silk and framed and glazed in the original frame to an overall size of 18.5 x 22. LISZT FRANZ: (1811-1886) Hungarian composer, pianist and conductor of the Romantic period. A good A.M.Q.S., F Liszt, one page (green printed manuscript paper with a decorative blind embossed border), oblong 4to, Brussels, 15th February 1851 (?). In bold black fountain pen ink Liszt has penned four bars of music, across two staves each, which he identifies as being from Les preludes. Signed and dated immediately beneath the quotation. With a further A.M.Q.S. to the verso by Auguste Franchomme (1808-1884) French cellist and composer. Franchomme has penned eight bars of music across several staves which he marks with the tempo allegro moderato at the head. Signed ('Augte. Franchomme') at the conclusion and dated at Paris, 9th April 1841, in his hand. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VGLes preludes (S.97) is the third of Franz Liszt's thirteen symphonic poems and the music was composed between 1845-54, initially intended as an overture to his choral cycle Les quatre elemens.Provenance: From the collection of Charles de Try (1819-1887) Belgian cellist, and his daughter Elisa de Try (1846-1922), also a cellist, who was a pupil of Franchomme.

The future Pope states in part `…d'aver lasciati in mano del Signor Marchese, mio nipote, che in maggior somma anca riscosti per frutti a me spettanti di essitto…Non avendo potuto farlo, se non d´una parte, attesa la necessita di dover partire per Fucecchio…´ (Translation: “…having left it in the hands of the Marquis, my nephew, who also received a greater sum due to me…Not having been able to do so, except on one side, waits for the necessary leave for Fucecchio...”) With address leaf, bearing a good blind embossed seal. CESPEDES DEL CASTILLO CARLOS MANUEL (1819-1874) Cuban Revolutionary. Known as the ''Father of the Motherland'', Cespedes is considered a Cuban hero who freed slaves and leaded the declaration of Cuban Independence in 1868. A good D.S., `C.m.de Cespedes´, one page, 4to, Bayamo, 27th December 1868, in Spanish. The partially printed document bears an attractive revolutionary vignette to the heading and the printed title beneath ''Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, Captain General of the Liberator Army of Cuba and in charge of its Provisional Government'', and to the left border the printed nine articles of the Decree of conditioned abolition of slavery. Cespedes issues and grants this certificate of emancipated security, permitting free displacement of the entitled former slave. The certificate states that it is issued to Teresa de la Jesne, a maid, coming from Santa Barbara, of sixty years, and black skin colour. Countersigned, also bearing a blue ink stamp at the base of the Bayamo government alongside a blind embossed sea. Overall age wear, with slightly trimmed edges and few small pinholes. About G

EDEN ANTHONY: (1897-1977) British Prime Minister 1955-57. T.L.S., Anthony Eden, one page, 4to, Lower Berkeley Street. London (although on the blind emboosed stationery of the House of Commons), 17th September 1930, to the literary agents Messrs. James B. Pinker & Sons. Eden states that in his previous correspondence regarding Places in the Sun he had omitted to give formal notice to terminate his agreement with Pinker & Sons, continuing 'I, therefore, do so now' and adding 'I do not anticipate that there will be much more in the way of receipts for "Places in the Sun" and, unhappily, I see no immediate prospect of writing another book as I had hoped to do earlier this year. There, therefore, seems no purpose in our agreement. Should I, however, in the future, find time to write another book, I shall hope to be able to make use of your good offices again'. Some light age wear, otherwise VGEarly in his career Eden supplemented his parliamentary income by writing and journalism and Places in the Sun was published in 1926. Stanley Baldwin contributed a foreword and the book, about Eden's travels, was highly critical of the detrimental effect of socialism on Australia.

A good signed New Years greetings card by both Tito and his third wife Jovanka Broz (1924-2013) individually, featuring a colour illustration to the inside of Ljubljana by the artist Bace, signed by both Josip Broz Tito and Jovanka Broz in fountain pen inks with their names alone beneath a printed greeting in Slovenian ('Sretna Nova Godina'; Happy New Year). LIVERPOOL EARL OF: (1770-1828) British Prime Minister 1812-27. A good, large D.S., Liverpool, one page (vellum), large oblong folio, n.p., 13th September 1809. The partially printed document, completed in manuscript, is a Deputy Lieutenant's Commission addressed to Francis William Cobb and states, in part, 'His Majesty's Lieutenants are thereby authorized and impowered to appoint Deputy Lieutenants for their respective counties, and the Warden of the Cinque Ports, Two Ancient Towns and their Members.......And whereas by one other Act of Parliament made in the 48th Year of the Reign of his said present Majesty, intituled "An Act for enabling His Majesty to establish a permanent Local Militia Force, under certain Restrictions, for the Defence of the Realm". amongst other Things the Mayors, Jurats or other Magistrates. for the Time being........shall and may Act as Deputy Lieutenants for the Purposes of this Act, and the said Warden was thereby authorized to appoint any other Persons qualified in the Manner directed by the said first recited Act, to act in like Manner as Deputy Lieutenants......In pursuance therefore of the said recited Acts, I the said Robert Earl of Liverpool, with His Majesty's Approbation, have nominated, constituted, and deputed, and by these Presents, DO nominate, constitute and depute you the said Francis William Cobb to be one of my Deputy Lieutenants.....you having delivered into the Clerk of the Peace. of the Town and Port of Dovor a specific Description, in writing, signed by yourself. of a sufficient Qualification for holding this Commission......to act, do, execute and perform, all and every Act and Acts, Powers, Matters and Things, in the said Acts of Parliament contained, which on the Parts and Behalfs of Deputy Lieutenants.....may or ought to be done, acted, executed, and performed, and that in all Things according to the true Intent and Meaning of the same'. TCHAIKOVSKY PIOTR ILLICH: (1840-1893) Russian Composer. Rare signed and inscribed 4 x 6.5 cabinet card photograph of Tchaikovsky. The sepia image, slightly raised, as issued, depicting the Russian composer in a half-length pose. Signed and inscribed to the lower white border of the card `To Praskovia Petrovna Chernova from her old friend P.Tchaikovsky´ in bold black ink. Bearing to lower white border a blind embossed seal and to the verso the printed logo of the photographer, with the printed text "The Imperial Theatres - Marinsky Theatre Building". Two small, neat indentations to the lower left and right edges, most likely the result of previous framing, not affecting the text or signature. A.L.S., H B Stowe, one page, 8vo, Mandarin, Florida, 11th February 1870, to a gentleman, on feint ruled stationery featuring an attractive blind embossed decorative initial S at the head. Stowe writes, in full, 'I have allowed your request to wait some time unattended because I had no photographs of myself. JOHN III SOBIESKI: (1629-1696) King of Poland & Grand Duke of Lithuania 1674-96. A popular King among his subjects and a respected military leader whose 22-year reign marked a period of stabilization. Very rare L.S., `Jan Krol´, signed by the King of Poland only two months before passing away, in Polish, one page, oblong 14 x 8, Warsaw, Roku Panskiego, 26th April 1696, to Caroli Stanislas Radzi, Duke of Otyka Nieswicz, in Polish. The letter states to the heading, “John Sobieski, King of Poland of the Russian Lithuania, of the Masovian Voivodeship, of Smolensk,…”. JEFFERSON THOMAS: (1743-1826) American President 1801-09, a Founding Father of the United States of America and the primary author of the Declaration of Independence. A good, large D.S., Th: Jefferson, as President, one page (vellum), large folio, Washington, 27th March 1806. The partially printed document, completed in manuscript, is a military commission appointing Alexander Macomb to be a Captain in the Corps of Engineers in the service of the United States and 'to take Rank as such from the Eleventh day of June One Thousand Eight Hundred and five', further stating that 'He is therefore carefully and diligently to discharge the duty of Captain by doing and performing all manner of things thereunto belonging.......And he is to observe and follow such Orders and Directions, from time to time, as he shall receive from me, or the future President of the United States of America or the General or other superior Officers set over him, according to the Rules and Discipline of War'. Countersigned at the foot by Henry Dearborn (1751-1829) American Colonel who fought in the War of Independence, served with George Washington's Continental Army and was present at the British surrender at Yorktown. Secretary of War 1801-09. With a circular blind embossed seal affixed at the head alongside an engraving by John Draper of a large eagle and shield and with another fine engraving at the foot, also by Draper, depicting cannon, crossed flags, drums, weapons and other symbolic militaria. A handsome signed document with good association. The manuscript text is a touch light, although remains perfectly legible. Some light age wear at the folds, one of which runs across Jefferson's signature, although to very little detriment. VGAlexander Macomb (1782-1841) American Major General, Commanding General of the United States Army 1828-41. Macomb received a Congressional Gold Medal for his stunning victory as the field commander at the Battle of Plattsburgh during the War of 1812.

The document bears to the heading a very large and attractive republican vignette, with the printed motto "Liberté - Egalité - French Government", being a commission for the appointment of Aide-de-camp issued by the war departmentan. A good, large D.S., Edward R I, as King, at the head, one page, large oblong folio, Court at Saint James's, 30th March 1936. The partially printed document, completed in manuscript, is addressed to Maurice Downer and appoints him to be an officer in the Royal Air Force from the 19th September 1935, and states, in part, 'You are therefore carefully and diligently to discharge your Duty as such in the Rank of Flying Officer or in such higher Rank as We may from time to time hereafter be pleased to promote or appoint you to, of which a notification will be made in the London Gazette, and you are at all times to exercise and well discipline in their Duties both the inferior Officers and Airmen serving under you and use your best endeavours to keep them in good Order and Discipline'. With the facsimile signatures of Air Chief Marshal Sir Frederick William Bowhill (1880-1960) and Sir Christopher Bullock (1891-1972) at the foot, alongside a circular blind embossed seal. D.S. in facsimile by both Hitler and Meissner, one page, folio, Berlin, 1st September 1941, in German. The partially printed document, completed in typescript, awards the War Merit Cross 2nd Class to Claus Tonsfeldt. The blue printed facsimile signatures of Hitler and Meissner appear at the foot of the document alongside a circular blind embossed seal featuring the Nazi eagle and swastika. DUMAS ALEXANDRE: Père (1802-1870) French Writer whose works include The Three Musketeers. A.L.S., Al. Dumas, one page, 12mo, n.p. [Paris], n.d. [1840], to Monsieur Porcher, in French. The letter bears to the upper left corner a blind embossed seal with his initials ''A.D''. Dumas states in part `Mon cher Porcher, Venez donc me voir, on remet le privilège de la porte St Martin a peu près à ma disposition et j´en voudrais causer avec vous´ (Translation: "My dear Porcher, Come see me, the privilege of the Porte St Martin is almost at my disposal and I would like to talk with you about it") With address leaf in Dumas´ hand with a small area of paper loss to a corner, and bearing several postmarks. Very small minor creases and age wear mostly to the upper edge, otherwise G Jean Baptiste Porcher (1792-1864) and his wife were French Theatrical Agents who used to purchase copyrights and ticket passes for their authors, later reselling them at the entrance doors of theatres. He very often advanced money to Dumas and other artists, sometimes keeping some manuscripts in pledge.

Mahogany bowfront wardrobe, blind fret frieze, panelled cupboards, with shelf above a hanging rail, raised on cabriole legs, width 107cm, depth 58cm, height 199cm.Condition report:There are some scratches to the bottom of the left door and some minor chips to the right edge of the frame. There is some wood missing from the top of the bottom right panel. There is rubbing where the doors meet at the bottom. There are some scratches to the base inside. After Kauffman, Blind Man's Buff, and Beauty, pair of coloured aquatints in verre eglomise frames, 42cm diameter overall; and another 19th century engraving after Kaufmann. Qty: 4 Condition report:Yes all three works behind glass. The pair of aquatints appear in good order, some paper discolouration with age, not inspected out of the frame. the 'Beauty' has some of the black of the verre eglomise border flaked off. The Andromache & Hercuba print has some creases bottom left and a 3cm tear to the centre of the lower margin. The title of work has also been worn off.
