approximately 96 by Kirk, Cowes, mostly signed and annotated some with ink stamp to reverse or blind embossing, including: International 14, "Q" and "H" class Solent Handicap, 30 Square Metre, International Dragon, Redwing, plus various small craft, including an International 10 Square Metre sailing canoe – generally 11 x 9in. (28 x 23cm.) each(A lot)The International 14 pictures include early West of England Class clinker built, Gunter rigged variants. Early class numbers were issued in batches, so are not a reliable indicator of age. The "Q" class mostly comprised superannuated yachts of the 6 Metre class, rendered out of rating by virtue of rig or cruising modifications. They often raced with the "W" class. The 30 square metre was one of a group of Scandinavian "Skerry Cruiser" type yachts, with little control over hull design, but restricted to a designated sail area. There were yachts in 15, 22, 30 square metre groups, right up to 75. One yacht depicted in this collection, Tsu Hang, was famously owned by Lt Col 'Blondie' Hasler after WW2.

A GEORGIAN MAHOGANY & LATER INLAID FALL FRONT BUREAU, the top and sloping fall with satin wood crossbanding, the interior arrangement with central blind inlaid drawer detail and flanking multi-wood decorative side doors, the centre enclosing a bank of three long drawers, further inlaid detail to the slim frieze drawer above three further drawers, all with later brass pierced backplates and swing handles, on corner bracket feet, 118.5 cms high, 105 cms wide, 48 cms deep (some veneer work and further restoration required)

D.S., George R, (a little light in places), as King, at the head, one page (vellum), oblong folio, Court at Saint James's, 18th June 1867. The partially printed document is a military commission appointing John Allen Bell to be a Lieutenant in the 89th Regiment of Foot commanded by Lieutenant General John Whitelocke. Countersigned at the foot by Robert Jenkinson (1770-1828) 2nd Earl of Liverpool, British Prime Minister 1812-27 and Home Secretary 1807-09. Signed ('Hawkesbury') using his title as The Lord Hawkesbury (1801-08). With blind embossed paper seal affixed. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, otherwise VG
ROYAL CHILDREN: Louise (1867-1931) Princess Royal and Duchess of Fife, eldest daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, and a younger sister of King George V. A charming, early A.L.S., Louise, two pages, 8vo, n.p. (although on the blind embossed stationery of Buckingham Palace), 19th August 1877, to John Neale Dalton. The Princess writes, in full, 'I hope you are enjoying yourself very much. We are going back to the Osborne to day. I send you a picture of a ship. Good bye Mr. Dalton please write me a little note. From your affectionate friend...' With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original picture referred to, being a pencil and coloured paint drawing on an 8vo sheet of printed stationery from Marlborough House, depicting HMY Osborne at sea, with a further illustration at the head of the page of a red brick house and three individuals, each wearing hats, walking in between trees at the side of the house. Signed and inscribed ('From Louise to Mr Dalton') by the Princess in pencil and dated 19th August 1877 in her hand; Maud (1869-1938) Princess of Wales, youngest daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, and a younger sister of King George V. Queen Consort of Norway 1905-38. An original, early pencil drawing signed and inscribed by Princess Maud on an 8vo sheet of plain stationery, comprising two images, the first identified in her hand as being of the Royal Yacht Osborne and the second depicting a house, with smoke billowing from the chimneys, and three stick men, seemingly brandishing swords, standing either side of the house. Signed and inscribed ('From Harry to Mr. Dalton') by the Princess in pencil, using her family name, and dated 20th August 1877 in her hand. Accompanied by a vintage unsigned sepia cabinet photograph by Georg E. Hansen of Copenhagen, the image depicting the five young children of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra standing and seated together in a group pose, and another vintage unsigned sepia cabinet photograph by W & D Downey of London, the image showing John Neale Dalton in a formal head and shoulders pose. A rare grouping. G to generally VG, 5 John Neale Dalton (1839-1931) English Clergyman, Chaplain to Queen Victoria and Canon of Windsor. Dalton was tutor to Prince Albert Victor and his brother, the future King George V.
WELLINGTON DUKE OF: (1769-1852) Anglo-Irish Field Marshal, the Victor of Waterloo, 1815. British Prime Minister 1828-30, 1834. Printed letter, one page, 8vo, Ormond House, Old Kent Road, London, 12th March 1856, addressed to 'Rt. Honble Lord Henniker U.P.' to the foot of the page, in Wellington's hand. The printed letter being a request from Benjamin Hawes, the Treasurer of the Royal Humane Society, stating in part, 'In transmitting to you the enclosed Invitation for the Anniversary Festival of the Royal Humane Society, allow me, on the part of the Stewards and Committee of Management, to solicit the favor of your presence on that occasion.' Accompanied by the original envelope. Together with a 12mo printed invitation from the Royal Humane Society for their Anniversary Festival at the Freemasons Tavern, Great Queen Street on Wednesday 16th April 1856, which further states, 'His Grace the Duke of Wellington, U.P. in the chair', with the recipient's name, Lord Henniker, completed in Wellington's hand. With a small amount of dust toning to the left edge of the letter. Also including Prince George: (1819-1904) Duke of Cambridge, grandson of King George III. Commander in Chief of the Forces 1856-95. D.S., George, at the foot, one page, oblong folio, n.p., 31st July 1872. The partially printed document is a military commission appointing Frederick Conybeare to be a Major General in the Army. Countersigned by Edward Cardwell (1813-1886, Secretary of State for War 1868-74). With two blind embossed paper seals. With light foxing to the edges and minor age wear. G to VG, 3
JOSEPH II: (1741-1790) Holy Roman Emperor 1765-90, the eldest son of Empress Maria Theresa and her husband Emperor Francis I, and also the brother of Marie Antoinette. Along with Catherine the Great of Russia and Frederick the Great of Prussia, Joseph II is considered one of the three great Enlightenment monarchs. Large D.S., Josephus, with an elaborate paraph, one page, large oblong folio, Vienna, July 1788. The attractively penned manuscript document is untranslated. Signed by the Emperor at the conclusion alongside a large blind embossed paper seal and also bearing two countersignatures. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG
