Four original drawings of carriages, c.1870, four highly detailed pen and watercolour drawings, three finished with gum arabic glaze, two with hinged overlays, one plate with blind stamp of “J.Maythorn, Coach Builder and Harness Maker”, one signed in red ink J. Cooper, slight dust soiling and spotting, each approx. 120 x 200mm. Scarce and finely executed drawings by J.Cooper, a well known freelance carriage draughtsman based in Long Acre in London. He was not employed exclusively by the Maythorn Carriage company but worked for many builders all around the country. Between 1880 and 1914 the trade journal “The Coach Builders’s and Wheelwright’s Art Journal was published by J & C Cooper, possibly him and a brother or son. The Maythorn carriage company was based in Biggleswade in Bedfordshire. (4)

Johann (Hans) Larwin, Austrian 1873-1938- "The Blind Man"; oil on canvas, signed and dated 1912, 90x119cm. Note: Hans Larwin was Born 6. Dec. 1873 in Vienna, died 18. Nov. 1938 in Vienna. Painter of Landscapes (e.g. views of Vienna), genre scenes and portraits, pupil of the Wiener Akademie, his teachers there were August Eisenmenger and Christian Griepenkerl. Member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus since 1902. In 1908 he was awarded the "Kaiserpreis" (prize of the emperor). 1922 to 1924 he stayed in Chicago. 1930 to 1938 he was professor at the Wiener Akademie.
