an Embossed Tortoiseshell Veneered Two-Division Gothick Tea Caddy, Retailed by Shipham, Market Place, Hull, early 19th century, the hinged lid with four panels upswept to a flat tableau centred by a white metal tablet engraved with a Gothick initial, the edge of the lid applied with a repeat blind quatrelobe repeat motif band, internally with two plain rectangular lidded compartments, the base with ten embossed Gothick "window" panels, on a conforming plinth with metal bun feet, the base applied with small oval paper label of retailers, as above, 16cm high (a/f)

an Oak and Mahogany Eight Day Longcase Clock, signed James Butler, Bolton, circa 1780, the case with swan neck pediment and finely carved flower heads capitals, fluted columns, the trunk with blind fretwork, wavy shaped trunk door with mahogany crossbanding and flanked by inset fluted pilasters, rectangular plinth with canted corners and upon bracket feet, 13-inch square brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and signed "James Butler, Bolton", dial centre with scroll decoration, date aperture and seconds, four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell, "later" seatboard, 223cm high See illustration james Butler was born in 1757 and worked as a clockmaker in Bolton, Lancashire until his death in 1809.
