An impressive late 19th Century French four glass mantle clockThe rectangular top with a blind gilt metal openwork frieze above four bevelled glass plates enclosing a 12cm gilt metal dial painted with Arabic numerals and "Guichard, Chalan & Saune", the clock with a two-train movement and a mercury-filled pendulum above a conforming openwork frieze raised upon a plinth base with bracket feet, 32cm high.
A group of four 18th and 19th century pencil and pen and ink drawings comprising an Arcadian landscape with circular temple and classical figures, signed bottom right J V Huysum, possibly Jan Van Huysum (1682-1749), coloured stamp bottom left, possibly museum stamp, a study of two children playing blind man's buff in the 18th century style, signed indistinctly bottom right, possibly W Beaux, a monochrome watercolour with pen landscape in the French 17th century style with rustic circular building in the foreground and a pen and ink drawing of 18th century figures in a classical statuary garden, both unsigned, all framed and glazed, largest 27 by 32.5cm, framed 44 by 54cm. A George III mahogany bureau, the well figured fall front enclosing a fitted interior with central cupboard flanked by blind fret carved secret compartments, six pigeonholes and six drawers, over four graduated oak lined drawers with later pierced brasses, on shaped bracket feet, 41 x 20in. (104 x 50.75cm.), 41¾in. (106cm.) high.
A good Victorian burr walnut and marquetry work table, the lobed rectangular top in quarter veneers with floral marquetry spandrels and tulip wood banding, enclosing a well fitted interior with easel back gilt tooled green leather writing surface, flanked by stationary compartments, over a single cedar lined drawer with conforming marquetry and satinwood veneered interior, the waste box below with similar marquetry and original hand blocked paper lining, raised on twin turned and blind carved supports to swept blind carved legs with brass and china castors, united by a turned centre stretcher, 28 x 18¼in. (71 x 46.5cm.), 29½in. (75cm.) high.
A George I burr and figured walnut eight day longcase clock by John Carter of London, the arched brass dial with silvered Roman chapter ring and Arabic outer minute track, gilt brass mask spandrels and matted centre with silvered sub. seconds at 12, date aperture at 6 and harboured winding holes, signed to a silvered convex roundel to arch within a foliate border and gilt brass dolphin spandrels, fronting an eight day bell strike movement with five knopped pillars, the case with cavetto moulded arched top with three gilt brass ball finials, over a blind fret carved frieze and secondary step moulded arch, on gilt brass stop fluted columns, the trunk with moulded arched and feather banded door and cross banded sides, on a cross and feather banded base with shaped bracket feet, 92½in. (235cm.) high.

The Complete Angler, collection of editions not listed by Coigney (or differing in some way from those listed by Coigney), comprising: Frederick Warne, "Chandos Classics", not 1888 as inscribed in pencil, doesn't appear to be recorded (no mention elsewhere of the Lansdowne advertisements to front and rear pastedown), publisher's maroon buckram with '58' blind-stamped to upper board; first Lowell edition, c.1889, Little, Brown, & Company, but unlike Coigney's [144] because the title page bears no date, publisher's red cloth; the first Cassell edition, 1886, bound together with two other Cassell titles from the same year (Sermon's on the Card and Childe Harold), not recorded by Coigney; a Cassell edition, c.1886, bound together with the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, recorded by Coigney for the first time in his addenda; an edition published in Philadelphia by John C. Winston Co., (no reference in Coigney), full leather with upper board detached; Cassell edition, 1905, in publisher's reversed calf, not listed by Coigney but referred to: 'Both Horne and Oliver list a Cassell reprint dated 1905 which they have not seen and cannot describe, the only listing which mentions it being the catalogue of C. W. Bushell's Private Angling Library (Australia), probably confused with this edition (No.226). It is therefore not listed here.'; a Davies edition not recorded by Coigney, which lists 75 Chandos Classics to front pastedown (Coigney's 103 lists 50, and his 107 lists 78); the true Japanese second edition, Tokyo, Kenkyusha, 1935, not listed by Coigney though he does say the following: 'The Kenkyusha textbook had probably two more editions between 1926 and 1936; I have not seen a copy of these' [Coigney, p.245]; a Collins edition not listed by Coigney, with seven pages of advertisements indicating that Illustrated Classics are priced at 2/6 and 5/- (Coigney 293 states 2/- and 4/-); a Nelson edition with all the main features of Coigney 390 (1954), but with gift inscription dated 1950; a Collins edition, no advertisements as in Coigney 329, binding and pages different; an edition published by Gordon Classic Library (no reference in Coigney); two copies of a Modern Library edition not recorded by Coigney, which list '362 Outstanding Books' to verso of dust-jacket (Coigney's 364 lists 341, and Coigney's 378 lists 371), along with another Modern Library edition that lists 271, one that lists 281, and one that lists 304 (17)

Collection of three autograph letters addressed to Miss Ellis and The Digging Party. House of Commons headed paper, dated 17 March, 1924; 10 Downing Street headed paper, blind-stamped 'Prime Minister', dated 30 December, 1924; Palace Chambers headed paper, dated 7 April 1924. Each letter entirely handwritten in black ink and signed clearly. Housed in an envelope, stamped Prime Minister, postmarked 30 December 1924, addressed to The Digging Party, Hampden House, Great Missenden, Bucks (3)
Douglass, Frederick. Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Written by Himself, Dublin: Webb and Chapman, 1845. First Irish edition, published the same year as the first American edition and before the first UK edition of 1846. Publisher's original blue blind-embossed cloth with gilt title to spine, pale yellow endpapers bearing owner inscription, 'Willm Moore, purchased of Frederick Douglass at the Subscription Rooms Exteter, August 29th 1846' (it is documented that Douglass gave an address at the Royal Subscription Rooms to generate support for the abolition of slavery in the United States). Preface outlines the reasons for fleeing to England and Ireland, 'For it may not be generally known in Europe, that a slave who escapes from his master is liable, by the Constitution of the United States, to be dragged back into bondage'. Contents generally good throughout with pale spotting in places, binding tight and solid with some discolouration to edges/spine; a good copy of a scarce and important work
