These were marked respectively 'Abbey' and 'Hall' in oval cut-outs to the left of the central motif. Seating in the Abbey was so crowded that only twenty-two and a half inches were allocated per person. The firm of H. Dobbs was founded in 1803 and pioneered the use of decorative blind-stamping for invitation cards.

The party was formally founded on 26 March, and within a few months had formed an Alliance with the Liberal Party. The SDP merged with the Liberal Party following the General Election of 1987, the unification process being completed in 1988. The SDP blind stamp suggests that this was produced shortly after the official founding on 26 March 1981. Attributed to Francis Bindon,  Irish c.1690-1765-  Portrait of a gentleman, bust-length, wearing a brown coat and grey powdered wig, in a feigned oval; oil on canvas, bears an old label inscribed 'Bindon' on the lower rail of the frame recto (left), bears part of an old, indistinctly inscribed label on the reverse of the frame, 75.8 x 63.1 cm. Provenance:  Private Collection, UK. Note:  Bindon was a successful portrait painter in 18th-century Ireland, whose sitters included Jonathan Swift (1667-1745), Thomas Sheridan (1719-1788), and the blind harpist Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). Relatively little is known of his life, but he is recorded as having studied art and architecture at Padua University in 1716 during his Grand Tour, and subsequently at Godfrey Kneller's (1646-1723) academy in London.

Waylant Amsterdam, the matted centre with chamfered date aperture at XII, and alarm setting disc, below pierced blued steel hands. The weight driven movement with plates united by four knopped and ringed pillars, anchor escapement and rack striking the Dutch system on two bells and hammers, the alarm sounding on the largest bell via a twin-headed hammer. The offered table has close parallels with English Pembroke tables promoted and manufactured by leading cabinet makers during the second half of the 18th century. Some scuffing and denting around the fitted drawers commensurate with use. Further damage and losses to the beading around the top. Chips and losses on the sides. The bracket feet joins are loose on the bottom.
