A George III mahogany eight-day longcase clock with 'High Water at Bristol Key', circa 1770, the four-pillar rack and bell striking movement with 12 inch brass break-arch dial with calendar aperture, subsidiary seconds dial and signed 'Tho's Bullock, Bath' to the foliate engraved centre within an applied Roman numeral chapter ring with Arabic five minute markers, and mask and scroll pattern cast spandrel applied corners, the arch with moonphase calibrated with high water markers, the arch-top case with cavetto cornice and Corinthian columns to hood over break-arch door flanked by blind fret canted angles to trunk, on tall plinth base with bracket feet, 215cm high. Thomas Bullock is recorded in Moore, A J 'The Clockmakers of Bristol 1650-1900' as working in Bath 1764-73.
A Scottish George III inlaid mahogany longcase clock, circa 1800, the four-pillar rack and bell striking movement with 13 inch silvered brass single sheet break-arch Roman numeral dial with calendar and subsidiary dials to centre and floral engraved decoration to spandrels, the arch signed 'Ja's Howden, Edinburgh' within conforming engraved scrolls, the swan neck pedimented case with blind fret infill and fluted pilasters to hood, over shaped-top line inlaid door flanked by fluted quarter columns to trunk, the plinth with quarter rosette inlaid corners, on bracket feet, 222cm high. James Howden is recorded in Baillie, G H 'Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World' as working in Edinburgh 1764-1810, 'A maker of repute'.
