Brunfels (Otto) - [Contrafayt Kreuterbuch nach rechter vollkommener art…], 2 parts in 1 vol., full-page woodcut coat of arms, 2 full-page farm and forest scenes, numerous illustrations, all illustrations and initials coloured in a contemporary hand throughout , part 1 lacking title and Z3, part 2 lacking A2 & 3, L2, N1 and P6, P5 defective with less than half the leaf present, some tears and repairs, mostly marginal but occasionally larger and extending into text or image, some edges frayed, much finger-soiling and marginal staining, contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, worn and soiled, lacking clasps, small folio, Strassburg, Hans Schotten, 1532-37; sold not subject to return. Despite the faults, the colouring in this copy makes it a most attractive work.

Dickens (Charles) - Oliver Twist, 3 vol., first edition , first issue , half-titles to vol.1 and 2, 25 etched plates by George Cruikshank, vol.1 with 4pp. undated advertisements at end, vol.3 with 2pp. advertisements at beginning, most plates browned, some foxing and soiling throughout text, vol.1 titles slightly torn, hinges weak, original purple ribbed cloth with arabesque design stamped in blind, spines lettered in gilt but without publisher's name at foot (denoting earlier state), rubbed and spine ends chipped, [Smith I pp 28-37; Gimbel A27; Eckel pp 59-61], 8vo, Richard Bentley, 1838. First issue with the "fireside" plate at the end of volume 3. The second issue appeared within a week of the first and "Boz" was replaced by the author's name on the title-pages. This copy does not have the list of illustrations in volume one suggesting, as with the binding, that this is of the earlier state, though no formal precedence appears to have been given.
A good George II burr and figured walnut eight day longcase clock with interesting converted Duplex movement the five knopped pillar movement apparently converted from the original rare Duplex escapement to a later anchor escapement, the backplate with substantial full-width arched backcock with chamfered edges, the case with caddy top hood with stepped and foliate blind fretwork frieze and gilt brass mounted turned pilasters, the 12in. brass Roman dial with gilt mask spandrels signed to an oval reserve 'N. Delander London', with six-second calibrated subsidiary seconds at noon and chamfered date aperture at six, pull shutter closure to winding holes, the trunk with feather banded door on original strap hinges, the panelled base on stepped plinth with later block feet, 98in. (249cm.) high.
