This includes the red 'wash' applied to the panels to the underside of the press. The paper lining to the interiors of trays is also a feature associated with Chippendale. Please note, there is no red wash to the rear panels and the supports to the feet are not laminated. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Exceptional figuring to timber. Excellent colour and patina. Marbled paper lining to slides could well be original but we cannot guarantee this. All metalware appears original. Wear to the gilding of the handles. Key present and operates all locks except to the middle drawer where the lock has sized open. The metal catch to the inside of one door is lacking. Some later supporting blocks to the backs of the feet. Some blocks to backs of feet are lacking. A mahogany breakfront library bookcase, in George III style, mid 19th century, the moulded cornice above four astragal glazed doors opening to adjustable shelves, the lower section with four roundel moulded cupboard doors all opening to sliding trays, on shaped bracket feet, 247cm high, 228.5cm wide, 58cm deep overallPlease note, on further inspection it has been concluded that this bookcase dates to the mid 19th century and not as originally stated in the printed catalogue. Condition Report: Please note, on further inspection it has been concluded that this bookcase dates to the mid 19th century and not as originally stated in the catalogue description. Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use.Old chips and splits. some small losses (see additional images for visual reference). The locks and handles all appears original with the exception probably of the small handle to an upper corner of each side cupboard door of the base. These look to have been introduced to the centre of the original roundel terminals (see images). A key is present to operate the locks to the astragal glazed doors only. Some locks may require minor adjustment to operate entirely smoothly. One lock to the lower doors is engaged. If the buyer contacts the department prior to collection, it may be possible for a key to the lower doors to be located. Above each lock escutcheon to the doors there is a small single filled hole, likely where a small loop handle has previously been located. The sliding trays to the interiors of the lower cupboards are all likely later in date but have been very well made by a cabinetmaker. The runners that support them in position are also later. The holes to the interior side panels to support pegs for the original shelves remain visible. Much of the glass has possibly been replaced as there is evidence of later putty to the reverse edges (some is untidy). There are no cracks or breaks to the glass. As often seen with library bookcases, there are areas of indentation / scratching where two adjacent doors are opened and the key or engaged lock of one knocks into the frame of the other door (see images)The shelves to the bookcase section throughout (all glazed sections) appear original.
