**VH - CH 30/10/19 REOFFER IN A&C NOV £300-£400** A late 20th century carved mahogany pedestal desk, two short and one long drawers on top with brass swan neck fixed handles above two pedestals, three short drawers on one pedestal with a storage cupboard on the other, on carved bracket supports.
A fine late 19th century figured walnut cased eight-day bracket clock, the domed top carved with acanthus-style leaves above a blind fret cornered by cast-metal finials modelled as flaming torches, the 15cm broken-arch dial with silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and slow/fast dial within ornate gilded spandrels, the gilded movement signed Lenzkirch and individually numbered 251570 and striking on double gongs, (with pendulum and key), 39cm high x 27cm (widest)
An 18th century oak-cased single-hand 30-hour Longcase clock, the 11" brass dial with silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and subsidiary date aperture, the four ornately pierced spandrels headed with masks and flanking an applied silver disc signed Donisthorp, 1752, Normanton, the dial flanked by two columns and a rectangular trunk door below with the medullary rays visible as decorative ornament, with shaped apron and raised on bracket style feet, the brass movement striking on a bell, 190cm high, (with pendulum and weight)
A mid-18th century walnut crossbanded and boxwood strung chest on chest, the carvetto style cornice above two half-width and six full-width graduated drawers, raised on large ogee bracket style feet (97cm wide x 183cm high) The handles do not look original, there is evidence of other holes behind them viewed from the interior. The sides of the drawers are pine lined and the bases of the drawers are also pine. The piece has come privately from a good local family and appears to be in generally good “honest” original condition. We report some fading and drying to veneers (mainly to top two halves of base unit). Although the ogee bracket feet have evidently been on the piece for many years it is not known whether they are original and a “conclusive” opinion here cannot be given even though in our opinion they have been in place for many years, at least 19th Century. In terms of back boards, certainly on the lower base section they look original and may well have possibly been replaced on the upper section, although if this is the case it has been done many years ago and also painted with a brown wash. Looking at the piece from the back it doesn’t detract if this is the case. The colour is quite pleasing overall and in our opinion wouldn’t take very long for a skilled restorer to bring it back to a very agreeable condition. There are certain small knocks, scuffs and minor pieces of veneer away commensurate with age but nothing major. The drawer fronts mostly on the lower section seem to have slightly bowed when looking at it from a side angle. There is some evidence of minor veneer cracking to the lower section left hand return just below the waisted moulding. Overall finish looks quite good again with some minor veneers away and scuffs etc., which in our opinion could be rectified fairly easily.
A mid- to late 18th century mahogany kneehole desk; the two drop-leaves flanking an arrangement of single full-width top drawer with small central napery drawer and cupboard door below, further flanked by three graduated drawers each side, probably retaining original brassware, raised on bracket feet, (restoration required) (83cm wide (including leaves) x 46cm deep x 79cm high)
A late 18th century George III mahogany 3' writing bureau, the cleated fall opening to reveal fitted interior with central cupboard door, drawers flanking and pigeonholes, further over four full-width graduated drawers probably retaining original brass swan-neck handles, raised on high bracket feet, sold together with original receipt for £2,250
