Unrestored as it has been in the same house for many years being used, before arriving at the auction. The left hand door has split at the joints, so the door panel is not secured correctly. Slides have been removed. There are some later additions and repairs to the cornice. One of the feet has broken in half, but we have the piece. A 19th century French fruitwood armoire, of large proportions, with a moulded cornice and enclosed by a pair of panelled doors, on shaped bracket feet158w x 68d x 237h cmCondition report: Overall it is complete, solid and usable. It looks like it would come apart, but arrived at the auction from storage, so we have not needed to take it apart. As it has been stored, it is dirty, with some marks to corners and edges where it has been moved. The wood is dry and would benefit from a polish. Has a rail inside and a shelf although appears to have had more shelves, which are now missing. We have a key which works. Is very large and cumbersome to move as it is so large.

The two base draws also appear to be slightly discoloured. The fall supports - the left-hand one is sturdy and good, the right-hard one is also good. Upon close inspection (front on) the right-hand side has lightened and has a very minor split but not problematical. The fall itself is flat and has small split from right-hand side (cleated ends) and some strengthening wood has been used to prevent the splitting. The inside of the piece is highly elaborate with lots of secret draws, small cupboards, slides etc. A stepped interior and the two brass hinges are quite verdigris, the lock also. Overall the piece has a very nice look.
