Each has 4 electric lights to interior- beneath later demi-lune drop in shelf panels. Some old damages and wear to drops- the sides showing some evidence of shrinkage and wearELECTRICAL GOODS. Page 85, figures 98 & 99, show marquetry on a cabinet in the collection of the Dukes of Devonshire at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire, that closely relates to that seen on the top of the desk shown here. Ibid, page 90, figure 101, shows a cabinet attributed to Jensen held Hatfield House, Herefordshire, which is very similar to the marquetry and design of the drawer fronts of this desk. A GEORGE III MAHOGANY SERPENTINE FRONTED CHEST OF DRAWERS CIRCA 1780 With a slide, oak lined drawers and stop-fluted pilasters 87cm high, 94cm wide, 59cm deep Condition Report: Overall there are some scratches, marks, chips, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.Some losses and restorations: repairs to the back corners of the top; two small oval patches to the top; some repairs to the bracket feet; fine sectional cracks to the sides of the pilaster corners; the slide has been cleaned; some splits and wear to the oak drawer linings.Some worm could be present, but this wasn't evident when inspected. The drawers with some later locks, the key operates the top drawer. The back is pine and of panelled construction. A high quality chest with pleasingly pronounced serpentine front and original handles. Drawers run a little stiff. Re-polished. Overall wear, scratches and polished in dents. Locks may have been altered. Panels and drawer liners appear consistent. Some evidence of old worm to the backboards, none that currently appear active. Overall the chest is in moderate condition and is ready for use with some light attention.
