Some minor scuffing around winding holes. Pull repeat has been relocated. Case generally good. Minor damage to carved decoration on front lower left and around left side fret. Side silks loose. Side handle mounts slightly damaged

Important Imperial Chinese carved Zitan Scholars' box and cover - Qing Dynasty and believed 18th century, of rectangular form with rounded corners, on four short bracket feet. The four sides and cover finely carved in deep relief with figural landscapes depicting deer, cranes and elderly sages engaged in various pursuits beneath pine, paulownia and other trees growing amid a rocky landscape with flowing streams, bridges and walkways, the wood of a rich brown tone with smooth patina - fitted with later hinges, probably in the 19th century and inscribed on underside of cover 'M Dillon Pekin 1850', 21.5cm wide x 13.2cm high x 15cm deep. Provenance: In a private British Collection for many years CONDITION REPORT Very good original condition. Chip to framing of one side panel to cover. Chip and hairline to framing of cover. Small chip next to one hinge. Felt pads stuck to feet

Inner Roman numeral chapter ring, secondary minute dial and calendar aperture over which is an automated tin hand painted sliding 'Old Father Time' movement and circular silver tempus fugit inscription and brass dolphin decoration. An oak trunk and hood with wedge shaped pediment on bracket feet, 254 cm high
