Generally colour and figuring of wood appear reasonably good. Legs/base may have had some alterations or additions. A few knocks and chips to edges, and to decoration to kneehole section, but overall appears in reasonably good tidy condition.

A 19th Century oak miniature chest of two short and three long graduated drawers on bracket feet, 70.5 cm wide x 64.5 cm high. CONDITION REPORTS Measurements are correct - plus 30.8 cm deep. Appears to be basically sound, with some marks to the top and discolouration to the front edge i.e. it is paler than the rest suggesting rubbing/hand contact, there are also two large ring marks and various other blemishes, dents and scratches to the top which appear to be of some age, each side has split vertically top to bottom where shrinkage has occurred between the front section of the chest and the side panel with some denting and scratching to the corners, the drawers appear to be basically intact, though top right small drawer has a replacement section of oak veneer to the left of the handle (see photo), the drawer linings are pine and pinned rather than dovetailed, handles appear to be new or certainly replacements, bottom drawer is missing the vertical beading to the left-hand side and has damage to the bottom left-hand corner beading along the bottom of the drawer far left approx. 5 cm, to the feet the front brackets strengtheners both have signs of old woodworm, the right foot is missing approx. 1.5 cm to bottom of foot strengthener, rear brackets may have been replaced and certainly are different in colour, bottom pine panel has a large split or series of splits from left towards right 44 cm.

CONDITION REPORTS Overall colour of the piece looks good though the plate rack is darker in colour than the surface of the base. The top boards on first impressions appear to be an addition though the rear boards do reach the top of the plank top. The moulding appears also to be of the same vintage. The plate rack itself appears to have original stained pine boards. If not original then an early addition. The marks around the base of the plate rack suggest that it is the original. If not then it has been there for a long time. The drawers appear to be original without replacements with the exception of the handles which have obviously at some stage been replaced by Victorian knob handles and then later added. The cupboard doors and interior seem to be original. Certainly the dog kennel to the centre has early or original paintwork which is worn to the base boards. The feet also appear to be the originals. The depth of the plank top of the base section is 44.2 cm. This plank top has several discolourations and splits, the worst visible split being to the right hand side 14 cm horizontally along the grain but also has a split either side where the plate stand meets the top approx 10 cm each. Please see images for further detail.
