A George III mahogany chest of two short over three long graduated drawers, flanked by reeded pilasters on ogee bracket feet, w.111cmCondition report: The top has a thin horizontal split right through, and another small split to back of top.Several marks and scratches throughout, but nothing too significant.Splits to both sides – the left more severe than the right.Some minor denting to cockbeading on drawers.
19th century Japanese lacquer cabinet, Meiji period, black lacquer with gilt decoration, pair of doors revealing 5 fitted drawers, raised on bracket feet. 30.5cm long 18cm wide 34.5cm high Doors are in good condition and secure. No key. Inside drawers are in very good condition, all have original handles. Front right hand edge has some nibbles and the foot has some lacquer missing. Side panels are in good condition, as is the back. The top has wear to the gilt decoration and the back edge of the top has a couple of splits to the wood (see additional images).

Panel with surface scratches. Frame with cracks. Wood stand loose with surface scratches, chips and minute knocks to edges, one stretcher loose, the other stretcher restored with splits and part missing. One bracket loose, one bracket with losses.

Both chipped to rim and corners. One rim with a tiny hairline crack.Inscribed one - chipped to rim and corners. One cover cracked.

A very fine and rare white jade 'Guqin' joss-stick holder box and coverQianlong Expertly carved as a guqin with four harmonic markers visible, and seven strings in relief, leading to a cloth cover with pierced roundels and flowers to allow the smoke to rise, the interior of the box carved with an auspicious bat, and joss-stick holder on one end, the box raised slightly on four bracket feet, hongmu stand. 19.2cm (7 1/2in) long (3).Footnotes:清乾隆 白玉雕古琴型蓋盒Provenance: a Swiss private collection來源:瑞士私人收藏In the present lot, the carver has made a joss-stick holder box and cover with a purely literati subject-matter playing the guqin - a seven-stringed zither - is one of the four accomplishments of the scholar. The other three accomplishments being painting, weiqi, and calligraphy. Wrapped and ready for excursion, the carver has cleverly pierced small apertures into the cover imitating embroidered roundels of a cloth bag to allow the incense smoke to rise. Compare with a related pale green jade box and cover in the form of a guqin, 18th century, illustrated by R.Kleiner, Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, Hong Kong, 1996, p.214, no.164.
