Los 985

A George III and later ebonised bracket clock, with two-train fusee movement striking on a bell. Height excluding carrying handle 37.5 cm, width 28.75 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock is in generally extremely good condition. It is ticking away and striking as it should. The movement winds on both trains. The case is in generally very good order with no significant condition issues. The front door is not warped. All of the metalwork is present and in generally good condition. The feet have lost much of their original lacquered finish as have the flat sections to the caddy top. The dial is in generally good order. The hour hand is missing its tip. We have a key and the brass pendulum retainer is present.

A 19th century mahogany linen cupboard, with two drawers above a pair of panelled cupboards doors enclosing shelves and raised on bracket feet. Width 150 cm, height 135 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Top flat and in good order, no splits. One ring mark to front right hand corner. Sides in good condition, no splits. Drawer fronts good condition, no losses to cockbeading. Handles are probably original. Doors not warped. Colour good. Door handles later replacements. Lock escutcheon and lock missing. Bottom moulding has minor scuffs and marks as to the bracket feet. Backboards original. Two interior trays (one missing ?).

A George III mahogany chest of drawers, with two short and three long graduated drawers with brass drop handles with circular backplates and raised on tall bracket feet. Width 102 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Generally good condition. Structurally sound. Handles replaced over original holes. Some pieces of cock beading replaced and missing. Feet and back boards are original.

An 18th century walnut bureau, crossbanded, with fitted interior with well and with one long, two short and two long drawers with brass drop handles and raised on bracket feet. Width 93 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Very tired requires restoration, flap in poor condition, drawer fronts with numerous old repairs, handles later, very tired.

A late Victorian mahogany gun cabinet, converted to a display case, with detachable moulded dentil and Greek key cornice above three glazed and panelled doors enclosing shelves and fitments and raised on a base with ogee moulded bracket feet. Width 195 cm, depth 59 cm, height 210 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: A very good quality cabinet. The cornice and frieze are in good condition. The left hand side has some minor scuffs from when the piece of furniture was moved. The right hand side is in good condition. The doors all close as they should without warps. There are no losses to the astragals and all panes of glass are present and undamaged. The bottom panels are in good condition with good quality veneers. The bracket feet are all original and structurally very sound. The cabinet was a gun cabinet and has the original fittings. It does however have some later glass shelves and runners since it has been used as a display case. All hinges and metalwork are in good condition.

An Edwardian mahogany bracket clock, with silvered dial and two-train spring driven movement. Height 26.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The width across the base is 19 cm, depth 14 cm. The case condition is extremely good. The movement does wind on both trains and strikes when manually advanced. The suspension spring is bent but the movement is currently ticking away for approximately 1 minute at a time. We have the key.

A George III mahogany toilet mirror, shield shaped, with bowfronted base fitted with frieze drawers and raised on bracket feet. Width 47 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The mirror surface is beginning to perish. It is serviceable but silvered. The mirror frame is in good order. The right hand upright has had a break and a repair. The repair is effective but the colour could be improved where there is some small area of filler. The top of the base is in generally good order. It is slightly undulating and has a stress mark to the centre. There is no movement. The right hand return has approx 7cm of boxwood stringing missing. Veneer repairs are needed to the top rear, the top and bottom right hand side panel at the rear. The left hand panel needs a similar small veneer repair to the top. The cross banding around the left hand drawer has had some replacement. The feet are original. All are present. The back board is original as is the base.

A 19th century oak and mahogany longcase clock, with swans neck pediment above the arched painted dial with two-train striking movement, carved trunk door and raised on bracket feet. Height 210 cm.

Los 1091

A Victorian mahogany writing slope, brass bound, bearing plaque to "Dr. W. Cox Surgeon, Ollerton". Width 45 .5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The box is structurally very sound. All of the brass bindings and handles are present. The rear left hand bindings have lost some of the original surface to the brasswork. There is a crack to the top running from the rear right hand corner starting at the bottom of the corner bracket and running across the top to approximately 6 cm from the left hand brass bound. The box itself has the usual scuffs and marks that one would expect. The lock escutcheon is missing. The lock and plate are present but we have no key. The interior writing surface area is completely missing.

A Georgian oak longcase clock, the 10.5 inch square dial signed "William Atkinson" and with thirty hour movement, the case with long crossbanded trunk door, quarter column corners and raised on bracket feet. Height 200 cm.

Los 1240

A George III mahogany Channel Islands tallboy, with inverted breakfront cornice with canted angles above a crossbanded and inlaid frieze, the top half with two short and three long graduated drawers with brass drop handles with shaped backplates, the base with three further drawers and all raised on ogee moulded bracket feet. Height 211 cm, width 140 cm, depth 61 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Generally very good order. This lot has clearly been through a workshop in recent years. The handles are clearly old replacements. The front is in generally good condition with good colour. The feet are in good order. The sides of the piece have old stress fractures and marks. There is some minor evidence of old woodworm which is long gone.

Los 1434

A Georgian oak cupboard, with moulded cornice above a pair of panelled doors, the base fitted with a series of drawers with brass drop handles and raised on bracket feet. Width 137 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Structurally sound with no significant condition issues. Handles old but later replacements, covering original holes. Bracket feet original. Generally very dirty needs a clean and polish.

Los 1074

A 19th century boulle marquetry twin fusee bracket clock, by Green & Ward, Cockspur Street, London. Height 44.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on both trains. It appears to be ticking away as it should. The movement is striking when advanced to the hour but does not cease striking. The clock face is a little dirty and has some surface scratches. There are hairline cracks around the numerals 2, 4 and 5. The gilding around the signature on the surround is rubbed. We are not sure if the tortoiseshell is simulated or not. Whatever the case there are numerous small losses to the marquetry to both the caddy top and the remainder of the body. The brasswork to the front of the caddy top is thin and worn in the centre. There may have been some form of plaque or other moulding. There are some small losses to the brass fretwork. The original finish to the brasswork is not present. All feet and corner brackets are original and present. The movement appears to be original to the case and is twin fusee.

An Edwardian mahogany bookcase, with moulded Greek key cornice above a pair of glazed doors with wooden astragals enclosing shelves, the base with a pair of panelled cupboard doors and all raised on bracket feet. Width 96.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Very good condition with no issues.

An Edwardian mahogany standing corner cupboard, with moulded cornice, glazed upper door, three frieze drawers and cupboard base raised on bracket feet. Width 77 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Extremely good condition with no issues.

Los 1270

An Edwardian mahogany open bookcase, with moulded edge, blind fretwork frieze and cluster columns and raised on bracket feet. Width 114 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Shelves missing. The edge moulding missing above all cluster columns and partially to the left and right hand returns. Scuffs and marks to plinth requires some minor restoration.

A George III mahogany linen press, with moulded cornice above a pair of doors opening to hanging space, the base fitted with two short and two long graduated drawers with brass drop handles and all raised on bracket feet. Width 124 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This has been damaged on the view. The left hand door as come loose from the mortise and tenon join. There are no breaks to the show timber. Repair would however be needed. Other than this the piece is in generally good order. No splits and no significant losses. Trays present. The drawer is stamped Adams, London. Handles are later replacements covering original holes, bracket feet are original and in good order.

An Edwardian inlaid mahogany wardrobe, with detachable moulded cornice above a pair of doors enclosing shelves and with drawers beneath and flanked on either side by a mirrored door and raised on a plinth base with bracket feet. Width 201 cm, height 216.5 cm, depth 62 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cornice is in generally good order with only minor surface scratches and the odd small scuff. The inlaid frieze is in good condition all the way round. The centre doors are of good colour and are not warped. All drawer fronts are in generally good condition with only minor surface scratches. The side doors are in generally good order with no warping. The mirror plates are in good condition. The right hand door has a scuff to the outside edge of the top corner. There are scuffs along the top of the plinth. The plinth itself is in good order with only minor scratches and scuffs as one would expect. There are no splits to the sides. We have the door keys. The locks are original and work. We do not have the drawer keys but all locks are present. The colour and polish are generally good and there are no real condition issues.

A George III mahogany chest of drawers, with four long graduated drawers with brass drop handles and brass lock escutcheons and raised on bracket feet. Width 75 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Structurally sound. All handles replaced. Evidence of old handle holes. Damage to drawer fronts requires some restoration.

Los 1178

A George III mahogany longcase clock, by George Felton, B. North (Bridgnorth ?), with two-train striking movement and centre date. Height 238 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cornice has an old moulding repair to the front right hand corner of the top arch. Other than this the hood is in very good condition. The door is not warped. There is a repair to the top right hand corner by the hinge. The silvered brass dial is a little dirty. The case and movement are probably a marriage. The cheeks are built up. The mask around the dial does however fit. The trunk door is not warped. It is locked and we do not have a key. The reeded columns are in good condition generally with some minor crushes and scuffs. The sides of the clock and the base are all in good condition. The bracket feet are original. The clock is structurally sound. We have one weight and the pendulum.

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Some splits and water marks to plank top, a little dry in places, some losses around cock beading drawers and a little grubby.

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Fair condition for age, one of the sides is a little dry and lacking in patination, noticeable horizontal cracks through veneers of doors, bracket feet are later replacements, general wear and tear commensurate with its age.

EARLY 19TH CENTURY MAHOGANY EIGHT DAY LONG CASE CLOCK, having flat hood over arched aperture flanked by spirally turned columns, the waist with moulded cross banded and shell inlaid door, within an inlaid trailing foliage frame on a panelled base with later bracket feet. Arch painted face with figural spandrels, the arch with 'Britannia' and Scottish, English and Irish figures, the spandrels with figures emblematic of foreign empires, Roman numerals and seconds dial. The face is 19" x 13.75". Two train movement striking on one bell.(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Overall in good condition commensurate with age, the face is worn, with faded numerals and some crazing, a little grubby in places, the bracket base is appearing to be an addition. Includes pendulum and two weights.

RARE LATE 18TH CENTURY WELSH BRASS FACED, EIGHT DAY, LONG CASE CLOCK BY PRICE JACKS OF CARMARTHEN, the face and movement in a later Victorian mahogany rosewood cross banded case, having broken swan neck pediment over the arched aperture flanked by spirally turned, baluster columns. The waist with similar columns flanking a shaped and cross banded door, on a cross banded panel base with bracket feet. The brass face measuring 18" x 13" and having rolling moon to the arch which is marked: 'High Water at Green Castle' (Carmarthen). Roman and Arabic numerals with arched date aperture and foliate engraving to the centre field, with figural engraved spandrels emblematic of the seasons. Eight day movement striking on one bell. 225cm high approx.(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Face and movement do not originally belong with this case, the movement and face being second half 18th Century, the case being second half 19th Century. Fingers appear to be replacements. Includes two weights and pendulum. The case has general wear and is rather dirty but is in fair condition commensurate with its age.

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Basically sound condition, lower mouldings and feet are badly scuffed and worn, a little dry and worn in places generally, horizontal crack across the top.

18TH CENTURY THREE TRAIN OAK LONG CASE CLOCK, face marked: 'Thomas Lister of Halifax', the case with broken swan neck pediment above square aperture, flanked by reeded columns, similar quarter reeded columns to the waist, with an arched door, later carved with foliate and Man in the Moon mask, panelled base with similar later foliate carving, on bracket feet. Brass face with silvered Roman chapter ring, also having Arabic numerals around a foliate engraved field with phases of the moon aperture. The movement now three train, striking on ten bells and a single gong. Face measures 12" square, case overall 220cm approx. (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: It appears the movement has been altered, with later striking mechanisms and the original face drilled to accommodate the case, also later carved in the second half of the 19th Century. Very dry dusty and dirty, includes three brass cased weights and pendulum..

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Good medium colour, no serious damage or losses, the bracket feet may be later replacements, areas of missing inlay in places.

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Appears to have been varnished, one glass pane is cracked through, minor splits and losses to inlays in places, the handle and lock plate escutcheon have been replaced. Basically sound and useable.

Square brass face with Roman and Arabic numerals, seconds dial and arch date aperture. 12" square. 30 hour movement strikes on one bell. (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: The case overall in good condition commensurate with its age and well usable, silvering from face is lost but otherwise appearing in fair condition, includes single weight and pendulum.

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Basically sound, the bracket feet have been replaced, splits to side panels, hinges have been moved and replaced, drawer linings are very worn. Handles and escutcheons are replacements.

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Basically sound condition overall, bracket feet are short to the front. Reasonable medium colour and patination. Planks to the top have shrunk to the joints, handles and escutcheons are replacements.

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Good clean condition overall, well repainted face. Includes single weight and pendulum.

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Basically good medium colour. Two nasty shrinkage cracks to each side of the bureau, horizontal crack through fall of bureau. Basically good and useable.
