Langford, London, an 18th century mahogany bracket clock: the eight-day duration, five-pillar double-fusee movement, now with an anchor escapement, having c-scroll and floral engraving to the backplate and striking the hours on a bell, the eight-inch break-arch brass dial having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and outer five-minute outer Arabic markings, the centre with a subsidiary date dial and engraved with the maker's name Thos. Langford, London, the arch with a silvered strike/silent dial and all with gilt-metal cast c-scroll and floral spandrels, with blued steel hands, the bell-top mahogany case with inset brass fretwork to the top corners, brass acorn finials to the top, a brass carrying handle, glazed side panels and standing on brass bracket feet, height 51cm, not including handle. * Biography Thomas Langford is recorded as becoming free of the Clockmakers Company in 1781 and took on a number of apprentices in the following years including William Whitaker and John Clark.
Edward Smith, Dublin: a small mahogany bracket clock having a three day duration timepiece movement with an anchor escapement with fixed pendulum and alarm the break-arch dial engraved with black Roman numerals and the maker's name Edwd. Smith, Dublin, Invt.et fecit, with blued steel spade hands and subsidiary alarm setting disc to the centre, the arched mahogany case with barley twist moulding to the arch and base and a brass carrying handle to the top, height, 22cm. (not including handle).
Ralph Banks, Devonport, a mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell, the brass break-arch dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, the centre with a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture and engraved Ralph Banks, Devonport, with an engraved boss to the arch, the mahogany case with wavy edge moulding to the hood door, fluted pillars and standing on bracket feet, 213cm. high. * Biography Ralph Banks is recorded working at Plymouth Dock (Devonport) often using clocks 'bought-in' from top London suppliers including John Thwaites. It is known that he married Rebecca Palmer Collings at Stoke Damerel parish church in December 1782 under whose name the business was listed in 1812.
George Holford, Doncaster, a mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell, the break-arch painted dial with black Roman numerals and signed by the maker Geo. Holford, Doncaster, the mahogany case with a break-arch top and standing on bracket feet, 221cm. high.
A 19th Century mahogany, satinwood crossbanded and inlaid tallboy:, bordered with boxwood and ebony lines, having a domed pediment with central musical trophy and paterae panels, containing two short and six long drawers, on splayed bracket feet, 103cm (3ft 4 1/2in) wide, 199.5cm (6ft 6 1/2in) high.
A late 19th Century Black Forest carved jewellery box, the hinged lid surmounted with a carved grouse with spreading wings, opening to reveal a button back padded red silk lined interior with two swing out compartments, on splayed bracket feet, the exterior foliate carved, (slight old chip to tip of grouses tail feathers). 25cm h.
