The dark patination is slightly rough and quite worn with oxidisation in areas. A few spots of verdi oxidisation in small areas.Dirt and dust. Socle worn, dirt and general scuffs, chips and knocks. A metal bracket to the top of the socle is broken, originally securing the bust to the base. In my opinion the metal bracket has been later added to allow for display on the marble socle
WNAI - AN 18TH-CENTURY ITALIAN MOTHER-OF-PEARL AND PEWTER INLAID EBONISED COMMODEWith three long inverted breakfront drawers on carved bracket feet, 151cm wide; 99cm highCondition report: Shrinkage split running the width of the top. Many losses to the mother of pearl inlay, notably to the central motif of the top, with further leaves missing. Missing elements of inlay in other areas. Numerous pieces of pewter pinging up and missing, mostly to the sides. Worm damage quite extensive in areas, notably the back foot, bottom edge and worm tracks visible to the top. Later timbers used to support plinth and back legs, see images. Losses along the plinth edge and further wear, together with a missing block to the front left top corner of the projecting angle. Handles to the top drawer are later associated. Another below missing a loop pull. Wear , shrinkage and loses to the drawer linings which are lined and painted. AN 18TH CENTURY TALL IRISH MAHOGANY CHESTWith two short over six long graduated drawers, on bracket feet, 102cm wide; 162cm highCondition report: A crack to the front right hand bracket foot; please see additional images on www.bellmans.co.uk and a further crack to the moulding of the side bottom edge. At some point restored and repolished, with later handles and escutcheons, repaired areas to the top edge of two drawers on the right side and veneer beneath the escutcheon of one of these drawers, together with other small repaired cracks and dents in places. Besides other minor scuffs, few dents and marks commensurate with wear, use and age, in good condition.
