Late 19th-early 20th century AD. A pair of reverse glass paintings each in a lacquered wooden frame with decorative suspension bracket, depicting a group of courtly females in layered robes. 4.0 kg total, 55.5 x 37.5cm (21 3/4 x 14 3/4"). Property of a Canadian lady; acquired 1970s-1990s. [2, No Reserve] Fine condition, frames scuffed.
dating: circa 1800 provenance: France, Round, smooth-bore, 18 mm cal. barrel with octagonal breech, remains of marking 'AN...'. Flintlock with brass pan, marked 'Maubeuge / Manuf.re Imp.' and stamp 'B' surmounted with an eagle. Stock decorated with chiselled outlines at the margins and checkered grip. Brass mounts, decorated as well. Butt-plate with relieved shell, grooves and dots, trigger guard with engraved rosette, outlines and dots, with stamp 'F' and 'BP' next to a crescent, barrel's bracket with festooned borders and milling, with mark 'F'. Barrel's tang engraved as well, iron back. Iron ramrod. length 35,5 cm.
dating: 17th Century provenance: Brescia, Smooth-bore, two-stage, 12 mm cal. barrel, first part is octagonal signed 'C. BAT. FRANCI', then round; external wheel-lock with flat plate marked inside with stamp 'GB', lily-shaped wheel bracket, chiselled cock's spring, sliding pan cover. Wooden, full stock with beautiful, iron mounts richly pierced and engraved, pierced and engraved trigger. Belt hook. Iron-tipped wooden ramrod. length 38 cm.
dating: 1860 provenance: Liguria, Smooth, two-stage, 14 mm cal. barrel, initially octagonal, chiselled with rinceaux and frames, vases, a bird and a dog, surrounded by the signature 'Triglia G.'. The barrel's back of round section, nozzle with a small, slightly chiselled moulded muzzle, floral engraving around the fore-sight. Masonic emblem in the bottom part of square and compasses, and engraved in italics caption 'Fatto in Sarzana' and the date '1860'. Breech with piston's base finely chiselled with a lion's head. Engraved tang. Lock with plate featuring a classic scene in bass-relief. The cock finely decorated with in-the-round man (maybe an old reparation on the leg), probably Heracles. Wooden stock richly chiselled, with two scaled and three checkered segments, all around leaves and flowers in relief, rinceaux and rocaille. Butt's side with cheek-piece and chiselled with a lion's head in the bottom part (probably Nemean lion's skin). Battle scenes on the butt's bottom. Iron mounts, engraved trigger guard (mounted on the contrary) portraying a hound, engraved tang. Horn muzzle. Barrel bracket with an old reparation. Brass-tipped wooden ramrod and iron cartridge extractor. length 127,5 cm.
