STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980)/STAR WARS: STAR TOURS (1987 - 2020) - R2-D2's FootR2-D2's foot from George Lucas' Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and later, Disneyland's Star Wars: Star Tours. In the 1980s, Lucasfilm provided original props left over from the filming of the Star Wars trilogy to Star Tours, including one of R2's droid feet from The Empire Strikes Back, identified by its fibreglass construction, which replaced the aluminium used in the first film. This particular foot, taken from a costume prop version of R2, was included on a conveyor belt of loose droid parts which visitors passed while queuing for Star Tours.Constructed from fibreglass and painted in R2's signature off-white and blue, this foot is currently affixed with a metal cable that was added when the piece was installed into Star Tours in order to suspend it from the attraction's ceiling, but the cable could be removed if desired. The foot features black slatted panelling on bottom, faux metal detailing on the sides, and two false wires on the back. The lower tread detail on the bottom of the foot was also added during its Star Tours installation. The metal plate on the inside of the foot can be opened and there is a welded metal bracket present where a wheel mechanism was once mounted during filming. The foot is covered in dust and grime from years of operation on Star Tours, and screws affixing the panels to one another exhibit rust from age. Marchant & Son, London, 12 June 1996Published and Illustrated: S.Marsh, Brushpots: A Collector's View, Hong Kong, 2020, pp.192-193.來源:Heliot Fils, Rue de Berlin, 巴黎(標簽)倫敦古董商 S. Marchant & Son,1996年6月12日展覽與錄著:S.Marsh, 《Brushpots: A Collector's View》,香港,2020年,頁192-193The present lot has a lustrous turquoise-blue glaze. Turquoise glazes were occasionally used during the Tang dynasty on earthenware tomb figures and by the 12th century the glaze was used at kilns associated with tile-making; turquoise glazes can be seen on Jin dynasty (1115-1234) Cizhou stonewares. While turquoise glazes were applied to Jingdezhen porcelains in the Yuan and Ming dynasties, they did not come to prominence on porcelain until the Qing dynasty. This low-fired alkaline glaze was made by mixing saltpetre (potassium nitrate), quartz and copper powder. The turquoise glaze is highly fluxed, and is quite runny during firing so it tends to pool attractively in the various indentations of the design as it cools. The glaze would be applied and fired after the porcelain vessel had had an initial 'biscuit' firing. The base is covered in a thin clear glaze and shows an imprint of the fabric on which the pot stood before the feet were applied.Turquoise-glazed porcelain vessels continued from the Kangxi to Yongzheng and Qianlong reigns. See a turquoise glazed meiping vase, incised Kangxi six-character mark and of the period, which was sold at Bonhams London, 12 May 2016, lot 67.This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: ** VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
