WARWICK BROOKES (1808-1882) A SELECTION OF HIS WORKS to comprise two frames containing a total of 17 sketches in ink, pencil and watercolour (charming studies of children - see illus , landscapes, figure groups and a still life), some initialled and dated 1845-1872; another ink sketch of a Manchester (?) street scene, 1862; an album of photographs of his work with a `memoir` biography by Thomas Letherbrow; a copy of `Warwick Brookes' Pencil-pictures of Child Life`, also by Letherbrow, 1889; 6 watercolours by his son, Warwick T. Brookes, c.1917; and 5 boxes of photographic glass negatives of Brookes Senr's work (a lot) * Brookes is a little-known name today but, in his day, he was a leading figure amongst artists in the North West of England in the `United Society of Manchester Artists`. Brookes' work was greatly admired by Prince Albert from whom he received much encouragement.
