A simply stunning example of the much loved R107, purchased new by our vendor, and displaying only 26,328 miles. The Mercedes-Benz SL range from the 1980s was known as the R107 Series and was undoubtedly the ultimate, California-sunshine, top-down symbol of the era. Various engine options were offered but the most desirable was always the smaller 280, 6-cylinder version (which at the end of the decade became the 300) so inevitably it was always the rarest and most sought after. Launched in 1985, the 300SL was the ultimate incarnation of the updated R107 and was available for only four years with just 13,443 ever built, making them a rarity in right-hand drive. It was powered by a 2,962cc straight-six engine that produced 185bhp at 5,700rpm and 188lbft of torque at 4,400, sufficient output to endow this open-topped Mercedes with rapid acceleration and a top speed of 130mph.This particular late-production 300SL is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive example and, with just one owner from new, this is a real opportunity to own a classic Mercedes convertible from the days when their build quality was legendary. Purchased from Gerard Mann Mercedes of Tamworth, and delivered on the 1st of August 1989 to our vendor's mother on a G plate on 'new plate day', this wonderful example has been cherished for its entire life in the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield. Stored in a dry garage, it's supplied with an extensive history file including its original books, all MOTs and Tax Discs over its complete life. Having covered only 26,300 miles in its first 21 years, it was parked up around 12 years ago and has been stored ever since. Our vendors have ensured that the engine was turned over regularly and, having now decided to bring it to the market, they have had it simply serviced and put through an MOT, pleasingly with 'Nil Advisories'. The indicated mileage at the time of consignment was 26,328.The optional hardtop roof has never been off, but it is believed that the soft top underneath is likely unmarked. The interior still appears 'showroom fresh' as do the tool kit and spare wheel. Our vendors have sensibly agreed to have the car sympathetically detailed prior to the sale, just to bring back the lovely finish that you would expect in such a low mileage Mercedes. As has been said many times, a car is only original once, and this SL remains delightfully original. There is slight marking to the edge of the driver's door, a reflection of the access in the garage more than anything, and a small mark on the bumper but we have agreed with our vendor that this is something that any purchaser might choose to attend to or leave as is, given the incredible condition of the rest of the car. So here we have a very low mileage, one owner from new Mercedes-Benz in exceptional condition, with the optional hardtop fitted, and an interior that belies it's 33 years, ready for a new owner to cherish for the next thirty years. Extremely rare and desirable. Finished in gleaming Nero, this is one of only three UK right-hand drive examples fitted with a manual gearbox. These models represented the final opportunity to buy a naturally-aspirated, manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive Lamborghini.Valentino Balboni started working for Lamborghini on 21 April 1968, as an apprentice mechanic working his way up through the company until his retirement in 2009. In the 1980s, he was the only test driver who was simultaneously employed in prototype development, production and customer service at Lamborghini becoming the face of the brand and an ambassador for the company. In the 1990s, SantAgata began production of the Diablo and prominent customers in the USA, Japan and the Arab states often insisted on meeting Balboni in person, to hear about their new car directly from the chief test driver.Today, Balboni leads the life of an elder statesman and, despite retiring, he is still proud to be known worldwide as Mister Lamborghini, a witness to both the founding era of Ferruccio Lamborghini and to the age of carbon fibre. Anyone who has ever sat beside him in the passenger seat, their palms sweaty and their heart pounding, will never forget the experience. At the time of his retirement, the factory honoured their main man with a personal limited-edition of 250 that offered him a free hand to encapsulate all his favourite driving characteristics in one model. Based on the Gallardo 550, the LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni is rear-wheel drive, reducing the curb weight by 30 kg to 1,470 kg. The engine is rated at 542bhp and Lamborghini claims the Balboni can reach a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph) and despatch 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds.Upon its release in 2009, the vehicle was sold out immediately as, apart from being a stunning limited-edition celebrating a much-loved man, the Balboni was the first rear-wheel drive Lamborghini model for over 10 years and a unique opportunity to option a manual gearbox car. This, UK-supplied, right-hand drive car is one of only three UK-supplied Balbonis with the desirable manual gearbox finished in Nero and just 16,800 miles have been covered from new in the hands of its five careful owners. The specification for this particular example includes 19" Scorpius Multi-Spoke Alloy Wheels, Gloss Black Calipers, Satellite Navigation, Lifting Kit, Reversing Camera, Multi-Function Flat Bottom Leather Steering Wheel, Dual Climate Control and much more. It benefits from a Lamborghini service history completed at the following intervals:Lamborghini London:03/09/10 at 3,454 miles24/11/11 at 5,832 miles09/01/13 at 6,188 miles27/01/14 at 7,940 miles12/03/15 at 10,856 milesLamborghini Manchester:24/02/16 at 11,924 milesLamborghini London:24/04/19 at 16,200 milesLamborghini Birmingham:16/03/2021 at 16,648 milesFinished in Nero Noctis with full Nero Perseus leather interior with Balboni signature stripes and a centre console in Bianco Polar, this Special Edition is now ready for its next owner to join the very exclusive club of manual-gearbox Balboni ownership.A manual, rear-wheel drive, normally-aspirated, V10 is one for the pure driving enthusiast. It is also important to remember that this car was the last chance for customers to own a normally aspirated, rear-wheel drive, manual gearbox Lamborghini - the ultimate drivers experience from Sant'Agata.NB: The car has been the property of Silverstone Auctions Managing Director, Nick Whale, for the last two years. Of Hull Public House interest; a Victorian indenture, dated 1888, relating to the King William public house in Old Town, signed by George Duncan, Deputy Steward of the Manor of Tupcoates, framed, 48 x 70cm.The ‘King Billy’, as it is known, started life as John Hellier’s Coffee House and News Subscription Rooms. The building had formerly been a linen shop and then an ironmongers, before it was first licensed in 1834. In 1840 Henry Dean changed the name to Dean’s Coffee House, running hot and cold vapour baths as a sideline. The year 1860 saw it take its regal name. The mortgage was transferred in 1887 to Gleadow, Dibb & Co., later the Hull Brewery Company Ltd, and later still Mansfield Brewery. The pub was refurbished in 2016 after some years languishing in dilapidation.
