Schumann: Leidenschaft fürs Üppige, 24.9.2007, www.deutschlandfunkkultur.de) Fernando Boteros großes Interesse an Masse und Form und ihre Beziehung zu dem sie umgebenden Raum gründet sich in seinem Studium der Fresken florentinischer Renaissancemaler, die die Raumperspektive endeckten und Figuren und Objekte in immer plastischeren Formen in die räumliche Darstellung einbezogen. Inspiration für seine Darstellung des gesteigerten Körpervolumens findet er unter anderem bei den Werken Rubens', Légers, des Picasso der 1920er Jahre sowie der Muralisten Mexikos, etwa bei Rivera, und nicht zuletzt bei der präkolumbianischen Keramik. Moderne und zeitgenössische Tendenzen wie beispielsweise die Abstraktion, das Verwenden von Fundstücken oder das Kombinieren von unterschiedlichen Materialien lehnt er konsequent ab. Er verschreibt sich auf unverwechselbare Weise ganz der Darstellung von Figuren und Stillleben. Mit seinen üppigen, voluminösen, runden Formen und seiner präzisen Wiedergabe von Details, denen er jegliches narrative Element nimmt, sucht er stets der Sinnlichkeit und Lebensfreude Ausdruck zu geben. Dies gilt gleichermaßen für seine Malerei und Bildhauerei. Das Stillleben nimmt in Boteros Schaffen einen wichtigen Platz ein, denn bei diesem Sujet kommt er immer wieder auf die einfachsten Dinge zurück. Dass er das Stillleben, im klassischen Sinne, auch als Thema für seine Skulpturen wählt, ist ein ungewöhnliches Unterfangen in der zeitgenössischen Bildhauerei. Vergleichbares lässt sich hier kaum finden. Als einfache Wiedergabe banaler Objekte, kommen seine Skulpturen in ihrer Monumentalisierung des Alltäglichen vielleicht der Pop-Ästhetik am nächsten, wie etwa jener der riesigen Hamburger-Plastik von Claes Oldenburg. Ein herausragendes Beispiel für seine Stillleben-Skulpturen ist unser Werk mit Wassermelone, das Botero während seiner ersten bildhauerischen Schaffensphase gestaltet: Sorgfältig arrangiert er hier ausgewählte Dinge - eine Kaffeekanne, eine Flasche, eine aufgeschnittene Wassermelone und weitere Früchte sowie ein drapiertes Tuch - auf der horizontalen ovalen Tischplatte, die von vier schmalen Zylindern getragen wird. Fast ohne dekorative Elemente zeigt uns Botero ein skulpturales "Porträt" gewöhnlicher Alltagsobjekte. Obwohl er die Dinge auf seine Weise vergrößert, gibt er die Proportionen perfekt wieder, ohne inhärente Übertreibungen. Dabei spielt er, mehr noch als bei anderen Tischstillleben-Skulpturen, subtil mit den unterschiedlichen Texturen und dem Kontrast von rauen, schraffierten und glatten Oberflächen. Durch die Sparsamkeit der Mittel und der Einfachheit der Darstellung verleiht Botero dem Stillleben eine beinahe feierliche Ruhe und einen Moment von Ewigkeit. Mit ihrer nüchternen Präsenz und Monumentalität, die durch das Material der Bronze noch gesteigert wird, dominiert die Skulptur den Raum, in dem sie steht. Sie lädt uns nicht nur ein, sie von allen Seiten zu betrachten, sondern sie auch zu ertasten - die beste Art eine Skulptur "anzuschauen". Denn hierbei wird Boteros lebensbejahendes Konzept fühlbar: Rundheit und Sinnlichkeit gehören für ihn untrennbar zusammen. Lara Croft's (Angelina Jolie) screen-matched Winchester carbine from Jan de Bont's action-adventure sequel Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Lara used her gun as she practiced shooting targets on horseback, handing the weapon to Hillary (Chris Barrie) so she could speak to the visiting MI6 agents. The carbine matches the one held by Hillary through the wood grain at the end of the grip.The weapon is a Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine made by Rossi. It features a large D-lever loop to cock the weapon, which can also be cocked by pulling back the hammer. The stock and grip are made of polished wood, while the rest of the gun is steel. There is a small brass plaque on the left side of the gun which reads "1st Prize Lord Croft", indicating that it belonged to Lara's late father.The lever, hammer, trigger and loading mechanism still remain functional. It has very minor wear from production use and age, including scuffs and scratches. The weapon comes with a fabric sleeve to protect it in storage.
