By the age of 39 Oskar, inspired by his father, retired from the family firm to focus on building his already established art collection. Reinhart travelled across Europe visiting museums and private collectors devoting his time to art patronage. Reinhart purchased villa Am Römerholz in his hometown which was to become his own private gallery to house his collection as well as his private residence. In 1940 Reinhart donated the Austrian, German and Swiss works of art from his collection to the town of Winterthur which was housed from 1951 in the Museum Oskar Reinhart, now within the Kunst Museum including pieces by Caspar David Friedrich and Adolph Menzel. The rest of the collection was bequeathed to the Swiss Confederation including his home in 1958 and this opened to the public in 1970 and is still available to visit today. The original bequest included over five hundred paintings and several thousand drawings.Reinhart was particularly drawn to French Impressionists and he enjoyed mixing old masters with modern masters arranging displays in order of form and colour rather than period. Verso mit altem Etikett.In ebonisiertem Kehlrahmen mit Goldleiste.Auf einer Tischplatte steht eine aufwändig ziselierte zweihenklige Silbervase, die das Prunkelement und durch ihre scheinende Oberfläche eine indirekte Lichtquelle der Komposition darstellt. Notenblätter, Musikinstrumente, ein Globus, eine geöffnete Taschenuhr und Musikinstrumente liegen umher. Ein mit Lorbeerkranz geschmückter Schädel lässt die Vanitassymbolik, die in der ganzen Komposition mitschwingt augenscheinlich werden. Wobei die Platzierung auf dem Buch als die Überwindung des Ruhmes durch die Literatur zu lesen ist, aber auch durch die weiteren Künste wie Musik, bildnerisches Schaffen und nicht zuletzt durch die Malerei selbst. Dies wird nicht nur von dem vorliegenden Gemälde selbst verkörpert, sondern auch in der Widerspiegelung des Malers mit seiner Staffelei vor seinem Fenster gezeigt – ein Raumensemble, das von einer herabhängenden Kugel gespiegelt wird. Auch das dort dargestellte, im Fenster liegende Fensterkreuz wird traditionell als Vanitassymbol gelesen.Das vorliegende, aufwändig gestaltete Stillleben lässt sich besonders gut mit einem Gemälde des gleichen Künstlers vergleichen, das sich 1944 in der Galerie Agnews London befand und am 11. Mai 1993 bei der Galerie Fischer, Luzern angeboten worden ist. Doubliert.76 x 62 cm.Die Zuschreibung an genannten Künstler bestätigt durch Dr. Fred G. Meijer.In einem dunklen Innenraum mit einem auf der Mitte nach rechts zur Seite gerafften Vorhang eine große marmorne Tischplatte, über der zum Großteil ein weinrotes samtiges Tuch mit gold-silbernen Fransen liegt, bei dem linksseitig ein Maskaron im unteren Bereich herausragt. Auf dem Tisch selbst ein aufgeschlagenes Buch mit der Beschreibung der Welt, in dem erkennbaren Asien und Afrika genannt werden. Ein weiteres geschlossenes Buch, aus dem ein Zettel heraushängt, auf dem „VANITAS“ zu lesen ist und auf dem eine prachtvolle Violine steht. Des Weiteren sind darauf zu erkennen ein Bündel mit Karten, Rauchutensilien und ein langes weißes Pfeifchen, ein über den Rand hängendes Notenheft sowie ein weiteres kleines Blatt Papier aus dem Buch mit der Aufschrift „HAEC MEA VOLUPTAS“. Ein mit Rotwein gefülltes Glas sowie eine erloschene Kerze, ein deutliches Vanitas-Symbol, sind ebenfalls auf dem Tisch zu finden. Juli 2010, in Kopie.In einem dunklen Inneraum auf einer alten Holzplatte, die nahe der rechten Seiten mit einem faltenreichen Samttuch bedeckt ist, die sorgsam arrangierten Objekte: Im Zentrum eine angeschnittene Zitrone, deren leuchtend gelbe Schale teils über die Tischkante hinweg hängt, dahinterliegend eine weitere Zitrone, rechts zwei dunkelrote Pflaumen, dahinter ein großer Kürbis und links von ihm Rispen mit hellen und dunklen Weintrauben. An der vorderen rechten Tischecke liegend zudem ein erlegter Vogel mit braunem schwarzgetupftem Gefieder und hellem Brustbereich. Malerei in der typischen Manier des Stilllebensmalers, der in den 1650er-Jahren in Antwerpen tätig war und der manchmal mit dem gleichnamigen flämischen Portraitmaler verwechselt wird. Ä., 1618 – um 1680, zug.STILLLEBEN MIT AUSTERN UND FRÜCHTEN IN ABENDLICHER LANDSCHAFTÖl auf Leinwand.41,5 x 61 cm.Vor braunem, hügeligen Hintergrund eine flache Zinnschale, darauf geöffnete Austern, einige glänzende Kirschen, davor ein paar Misteln und eine angeschnittene Feige. Hinter der Platte liegend ein kleiner Zweig mit Pflaumen, helle und dunkle Traubenrispen, eine leuchtende Orange, ein Paar Äpfel, ein helles Brot, dazwischen arrangiert einige grüne Zweige. Rechtsseitig eine weiß-blaue Fayence-Schale, gefüllt mit leuchtenden Erdbeeren, daneben weitere Weintrauben und einige Orangen liegend. Im Hintergrund rechts Blick auf den abendlichen Himmel mit den letzten rötlichen Streifen der untergegangenen Sonne. Feine farbenfrohe Malerei in der typischen Manier des bekannten Künstlers. Doubliert.76,5 x 63,5 cm.Gerahmt.Wir danken Dr. Fred G. Meijer vom RKD, Den Haag, der das Gemälde in die Nachfolge des Simon Verelst stellt, vermutlich von einem englischen Maler des frühen 18. Jahrhunderts.Vor dunklem Hintergrund steht auf einer von rechts ins Bild ragenden Tischplatte ein Blumenstrauß in einer gebauchten Glasvase. Besonders schöne Exemplare großer Blüten mit ebenso zarten wie kunstvoll geformten Blütenblättern sind dabei zu einem kostbaren Arrangement zusammengestellt. Darunter befinden sich roséfarbene und weiße Rosen mit gefüllten Blütenköpfen, Mohnblumen, Malven, Lupinen und Astern. Ferner rankt sich eine gelbe Kapuzinerkresse über den Tischrand. Links neben der Vase liegen sieben rote Kirschen an der Tischecke.Mit seinen weißen, rosafarbenen, roten sowie gelben und blauen Tönen in den Blüten und seinem vielschichtig, nuancierten grünen Blattwerk weist das Blumenstillleben eine durchaus bunte Farbpalette auf. Einige weiß-bräunlich gefärbte, verwelkende Rosenblätter im unteren Bereich des Straußes weisen subtil auf die Vergänglichkeit der Blütenpracht hin, ein Momento Mori. Der Künstler wollte wohl die ausgesprochene Brillanz seiner Farbwahl und seiner Formgebung anhand des Blumenstillebens vorführen. Jan van der Waarden, 1811 – 1872STILLLEBEN MIT FRÜCHTEN UND BLUMENÖl auf Holz.91,8 x 76,7 cm.Rechts unten signiert und ortsbezeichnet „J van der Waarden Haarlem“.In vergoldetem Prunkrahmen.Vor grünlichem Hintergrund auf Steinplatten über zwei Ebenen liegend die prächtigen Früchte und Blumen: dazu gehören helle und dunkle Weintraubenrispen an einem Ast, der sich von rechts oben diagonal nach links unten zieht, dazwischen Pflaumen, ein geöffneter Granatapfel, Pfirsiche, davon einer auf der unteren Platte geöffnet liegend, Maiskolben und Kirschen sowie Mohn und Edelwicken. Aufgelockert wird die farbenfrohe Wiedergabe durch einzelne kleine Insekten und Falter. Kunstvolle Komposition mit feinen präzisen Details, ein Werk, das noch ganz in der Tradition der Blumenstillleben des 18. Jahrhunderts steht. Seine Inspiration für die dargestellten Objekte konnte sich der Maler wohl in den Haarlemer Gärtnereien holen, in der seltene und exotische Blumen zu bewundern waren.Provenienz: Christie’s, London 19.
